Cruising the Caribbean - March 24 - Day 8 - Barbados

Index here

Day 7 here

Martin woke at around 6 am, while I slept in until 7am today. We were just approaching Barbados.

Martin nipped up to the buffet and picked us up a couple of pastries. I had the Apple danish, which was very nice.

We got our beach bag ready for the day and were off the ship at 8:30 am, just a few minutes after we’d been cleared to exit the ship.

We walked through the port to the taxi stand and got in a minibus. For a $5 per person charge, it took us to The Boatyard on Carlisle Beach.

We paid $70 in total for the two of us, which included a sun lounger each, parasol, welcome drink, snorkel tour, wifi and transport back to the ship.

We lay in the sun for a while, before it started to cloud over. We picked up our welcome drinks and then went back to our loungers.

We were soon called for our boat trip - we were on the first boat of the day. We were given life vests, plus snorkels and masks, and made our way along the pier to our boat.

Once aboard, we sailed out a little way before they dropped the anchor and we could get off the boat.

Now I’m not very good with snorkelling. I get a bit claustrophobic with the mask over my face and forget to breathe through my mouth. 🙈 I was better just having the mask on and holding my breath to see under the water.

We swam out to a sunken wreck and saw a lot of fish swimming around us. I moved a bit further away and saw a sea turtle. 😍 I was gutted that I hadn’t got an underwater camera with me, but still pleased to have seen it for myself.

It actually started raining while we were snorkelling. Not that it mattered as we were wet anyway. 😂

It was soon time to get back on the boat and head back to the beach. When we got there, my towel and both of our T-shirts were soaked. They’d been on my sunbed under the parasol. The rain must have come sideways as Martin’s side was dry! 🙈

The rain was quite heavy for the next hour, but we remained on our sunbeds, semi-sheltered.

I was starting to feel a bit cold. I hadn’t managed to dry off since our snorkelling, and with a towel wet enough that I could ring it out, I wasn’t feeling it. So at 1pm, with no signs of the rain stopping, we decided to cut our losses and head back to the ship.

We went in to a few shops near the port, picking up a couple of small souvenirs, then got back on the ship and got changed out of our damp things.

It was now 2pm, so with fresh clothes on, we headed for a late lunch. I had roast beef, mashed potatoes and carrots and Martin had chicken of some sort.

We then went to the Passport Bar and had a cocktail each, before heading back to our cabin, where we read for an hour.

We showered and got ready for dinner, then were soon seated in the restaurant, with our usual fabulous waiters.

Martin had the Spiced Louisiana Gumbo, followed by the Sauteed Tilapia Fillet. I had the chicken corden bleu.

We shared a dessert - the cannoli tutti-frutti.

We left the restaurant and went to the Martini Bar. I ordered a cosmopolitan and Martin had a beer.

We followed that with another round of drinks, before heading back to the room.

Shame about the rain soaking everything on your sunbed, it sounded a good day until you started to feel the cold at least you got back to the ship ok and warmed up!

I can’t believe I felt cold in Barbados. 😂 Think I would have been ok if my towel had still been dry.

Barbados is wonderful with lots to do and see. It’s a pity you had such a short time to enjoy the beach

We were sorry to miss out on what Barbados has to offer. We’ll just have to go back for a longer trip next time.
