The universe is vast and on the balance of probabilities, conditions for life, in some form or other, will likely exist somewhere out there. I voted not sure though as we can’t say yes for sure until we get some proper evidence!

Well, it's very unique for life exactly like ours, yes. But who's to say other lifeforms haven't evolved based on their particular environment and circumstances?

It's estimated that there are between 200 billion to 2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe. So if there was one planet with intelligent life per galaxy then that would mean a LOT of planets out there with intelligent life.

It would mean we weren't very unique at all.

For info, there are on average around 100 million stars per galaxy. Up to now, we've only discovered around 5000 planets. There are potentially quadrillions of planets out there that we haven't discovered yet, many of which we will probably never find.

I think there is alien life out there somewhere. Possibly quite a lot of it. Thus I voted "Yes", although more correctly I would be in a "Probably yes" group.

However, I doubt we will ever encounter any of it.

I met so many ‘Martians’ in my Police career that I could not believe otherwise than that there is ‘other worldly life’.. mainly in Redruth.
I knew something was odd when I noticed that upon scoring a try, they were all ‘High Sixing’ each other.

The universe is so huge that it's hard to believe Earth is the only place with life. But if there are aliens, I'm sure they don’t look like the classic big-eyed, green figures we always see in movies. 🤣 I wonder where that came from 🤔

You took the words from my mouth. But I’m still going to write it

Two trillion galaxies, if we take it there are one intelligent life form per galaxy. Then there is two trillion alien species bobbing about this old universe.

Now at the moment science says we can not travel faster than the speed of light so unfortunately we are just not going to get the chance meet those alien dudes.

However we just need one or two of those alien species to discover worm hole technology or warp drive engines or some other distance eating method of traversing the universe and hey presto it’s all up for grabs.

Live long and prosper peeps.

Even then, given the size of the universe, what's the likelihood that they'll use that worm hole / warp drive technology to travel to our little area of space and notice us? They'd have to arrive somewhere in the vicinity of our solar system to do that and that's a quadrillion to one chance.

Because life requires certian elements.. There COULD be silicon based life but it would still follow a similar pattern to carbon based life... IE convergence (2 eyes 2 arms legs etc) A classic example of this convergence at work on earth is Madagasgar, it seperated from the mainland about 180 million years ago.

There are many examples of completely different species forming the same function as mainland species.

Fossa - looks like a cat, behaves like a cat, but it is a type of mongoose

Tenric - looks identical to a hedgehog but it isnt a hedgehog.. When madagascar seperated there were no hedgehogs anywhere, These creatures evolved and formed at the same time as mainland hedgehog..

There are so many other species that evolved sepearatly but ended up being almost identical to the mainland equalivent.

Its this convergence that life itself seems to follow.

I dont think there isnt going to be some amazing different alien life out there.. its going to be something similar to what we already know.. limbs, eyes, hearts etc..

Well we might get a chance to travel interstellar distances due to time dialation, so if we got to 99% of the speed of light I think travelling for 1 light year for the traveller would actually only just over half a year... (roughly!)
