Short checking (but not short checking)… MIA - LHR - MAN

We are doing a quick week away in May. We are flying MAN-LHR-MIA. On the way out our luggage would be checked through.

If we only took hand luggage sized bags and took them on as hand luggage, would we be able to disembark at Heathrow on the way home? Does this cause any issues, will BA track me down and ask me why we didn’t take the second leg?

Getting the train home from Heathrow would get us home the same time as we would have been landing at Manchester, and save us the three hour drive home.

Unless you are doing this on a regular basis, they are highly unlikely even to notice, and they won't track you down.

Did you book direct or via a travel agent? There have been cases where BA went after travel agents and charged them (soft target, airlines can do this to agents without courts or publicity, the public is a different matter). These agents were also selling a lot of these tickets, knowing what the customers would do.

In theory the conditions of carriage say BA could reprice the ticket, but they have shown no inclination yet to go after the public. Frequent flyer accounts would be an easier target, but again you'd have to be a serial "offender". I wouldn't worry about dropping the last leg, you'll be fine. Don't try to cancel it, just no-show.

Brilliant thanks, we are travelling again in August same flights. Doubt I could pack for the five of us in hand luggage only so it would be a one off !
