Mobile Summer 2020 where shall we go!

Ok, so after a California road trip last year, we settled on a trip to Hard Rock Mexico for summer 2020. Got a great price booking with TC and we all know how that ended up!

So we are back to the drawing board! We are quite active, family of 4, like to see and do different things, but if history and culture thrown in. Open to any recommendations, must go in August as wifey is a teacher. Want good weather and don’t mind doing long haul.

Been looking at Vietnam but has anybody been in August? Looked at combining ho chi min city and Hoi An for a bit of city and a bit of beach but we are open to suggestions!

Anybody got any ideas? Our travel agent mate used to work for TC and I don’t want to ask her as it’s all still a bit raw so you guys are my official Dibb agents 😁😁

Vietnam in August is one of the worst months to go.
How about Canada? The Rocky Mountains?

How about a New England Road Trip? Boston, Salem, Maine for lobster, river tubing in Connecticut, Cape Cod for a beach bit, White Mountains for some zip wire fun...

Or a Canadian road trip, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec and Toronto, beach bit on one of the lakes?

I love the look of a Texan 2 centre holiday too, Austin or Dallas, with a beach week on the Gulf.

A road trip in the south, Charlotte, Smokey Mountains and a week on a barrier island by the beach...

Closer to home how about a Mediterranean cruise? We did an Italy one with a week in Greece after which was great. We loved waking up in a new destination each day.

Israel is meant to be a wonderful place to visit too, you can go to Petra in Jordan, Jerusalem and float around in the Dead Sea...

We did Vietnam last July, we flew home on 1 August. We stayed in both Ho Chi Minh and Hoi An, I am writing a trip report but it’s only in its early stages but if you want to read it, it’s in the general trip report section on here.

The weather was very good when we were there, incredibly hot and humid but it’s always going to be like that. It was still early rainy season, so we had a couple of very wet evenings but generally good days. However our son lives in Ho Chi Minh and he said the week after we returned, so the first week in August, the rain was very heavy and the rain showers lasted most of the day. So, ideally August-October would be the months to avoid. He says it’s not always wet then, they have weeks when it’s not too bad but it’s more likely to rain.

If you did decide to go, let me know and I could give you hotel recommendations and tips for what to see. It really is a beautiful, fascinating country and I would completely recommend it for a holiday. We said it was probably the best holiday we have ever had

We did Barbados last August. Absolutely loved it.

Lots of colonial history, cricket, horse racing and water based activities.

How about a sailing holiday? Go with Neilson or Sunsail, you can do your yacht training in the first week then join a flotilla for the second week and explore the islands - the Ionian is a great place to learn. We love it and have been going since our children were about 7 and 9. There are usually quite a lot of children on the summer holiday flotillas and they can join in with sailing the boat then jump off it at lunchtime and in the evening!
Or Neilson have activity beach clubs where everyone can learn all sorts of water and land-based sports, there's so much to do.
