Our original front door was the same as yours with the glass panel down the side (both door and frame in dark brown wood)

We replaced it a couple of months ago with a black composite door similar to tracydcp's door - two glass panels in the door with etched glass to let in extra light(modern design on the glass as I am not so keen on the coloured/patterned glass) also with chrome fittings.

We had to remove the side glass panel as we had extended a wall internally and wanted it covered over so had a panel made to replace the glass which matched the new door. If this had not been required I would have chosen two thinner glass side panels and moved the door to a central position.

Sorry haven't got a photo at the moment. Its more difficult to decide than I first thought. Hope you find something you like.

Forgot to add - I love the black door, my parents also have a similar one and two of their neighbours are having them fitted.

Tracy

A lot of people don't realise the impact it has. Yours is right for the house/era. Nice.
I would change the knob as it doesn't look in keeping and move it to the right hand edge of the door. Matt black would look nice.
Hope you like my ideas!
Done!
However I did start peeling the paint at the side and wished I hadn't 😩

That was quick,
We had customised glass like you have suggested, we didn't reuse what was already in, we measured and ordered new, we used door company by Seacombe Ferry towards one of the four bridges, I'm sure there's plenty on your side of the river,
Door looks great

We replaced the UPVC door on our house as it had been so badly damaged by the heat, the previous owner had 3 doors in 15 years.
We went for a composite door as they are supposed to be much better, I hope it is as we really don't want to be replacing it every few years

Hi, We have a south facing composite door in Golden Oak, the door in inset with an arched brick porch, after 5 years the bottom third of the door has faded a bit, not very happy, we were told that the door would withstand almost everything !. Guess the porch has shaded the top part of the door a bit. Hope you have more luck. Our composite back door is fine, but it faces a different way.
