I am guarantor for my SIL's loan & to be honest I wish I wasn't. I haven't yet had to make a payment, but have lost count of the number of times they have changed the payment date, paid late & gone into arrears. I'll be glad when it's paid off. They wanted to top it up but I said absolutely no chance!

Having said that, my DH is guarantor for his DD & never has anything from the loan company other than a monthly statement.

Recently had this with BIL- he's a graduate and it's his first let. We refused but it ended up that MIL loaned him 6 months rent upfront and the letting agents were happy with that.
