booking direct with Alamo?

Best price seems to be coming up by booking direct with Alamo -
I find all the varying types of cover/insurance available so confusing - if I book direct with Alamo would I still get full insurance cover - I usually opt for Virgin Platinum cover?
And ... can I still do skip the counter?

Yes you'd be fully covered even with the basic cover, but as always there are different levels of cover which allow more drivers etc.

Yes you can still do skip the counter

By choice I always book Alamo mainly for the STC advantage.

I usually book with Alamo Brits or, more recently, with Andy at DFCH.

All reputable UK brokers should include, or at least show it as a readily available option, the important insurances such as CDW with no excess and, more importantly, $1m SLI. Others include Virgin Atlantic (stand alone car hire - not a package), netflights, usrentacar.

You can skip the counter at MCO, MIA, TPA and FLL with Brits and any 3rd party broker.

Thanks very much for helpfull replies - I was just expecting there to be more 'options' available re level of cover by booking direct with Alamo.co.uk - I get LDW and extended protection - but it does not say anything about CDW, UMP, SLI - I'm guessing these are the same as LDW and extended protection?
Confusing!

Loss damage waiver = collision damage waiver. Simply an indemnity if you bend the lump of tin that you're driving. Quite simply bend your tin with CDW just ring Alamo and they'll bring you a new car - nothing to pay. If you don't take the included CDW and bend your car you will be deemed at fault and a large hold put on your CC until blame is resolved. Can't see the point in not having it.

Supplemental liability insurance = Extended protection. Far more important in my opinion. Injure someone seriously in a car crash. Having only the state minimum of $20k = hello bankruptcy.

Not sure what UMP is

Big thank you - definately have LDW and extended protection with Alamo direct!

Sounds good.

Please keep well clear of booking via a USA site as they probably won't include those insurances. American's normal driving insurance automatically covers them for hire cars.

OP. Hardly anybody includes UMP as standard.

I wont pay extra for it as it concerns me not what damage may occur to the rental car. Well I do but that's down to Alamo to sort out
