built in satnav - pairing with an android phone?

Hi - we previously used, with great success, the built in sat nav in our hire Mustang by pairing with with our I phone - Sync 3?

Hubby now has a Huawei which is fully compatible to use in the USA - so should we be able to use the sync 3 as successfully as we did with the I phone?

Just wondering if anyone has managed to do this yet?

Yes, just ensure Android auto is installed on the phone and on first connect add it as a trusted device and grant the correct permissions etc..

I use my AA enabled phone in many hire cars, they all connect easy enough.

Sorry to complicate things but Sync 3 is a Ford only system and only deals with Bluetooth pairing and communications. The navigation will be a separate application and likely a built in system this can some times be deactivated.

Android auto or Apple car play are a system which can mirror the standard navigation from your respective phone. Android software usually mirrors Google maps as default. Apple car play will only mirror the Apple maps application.

Your car may have sync 3 without in built navigation, but have Apple car play or Android auto Which allows you to mirror your inbuilt phones navigation system.

Its possible also to have sync 3 without Ford navigation or either Apple car play / Android auto.

This is unlikely with US spec cars but just in case i would take a phone holder if you are planning on using navigation.

Out of curiosity, in general do the hire cars still have CD players? Just wondering what phone holder to take with us. Here at home I know use a cd mounted holder but still have my old vent mount.

The last few years I haven't had a CD player in any car I've hired in the US.

Your right Sync 3 can come with or without sat nav. But pretty sure all sync 3 systems work with Android Auto and Apple car play. You do need the android auto app downloaded to phone though.

If taking a Ford make sure you get one with the large touch screen not the super cheap basic tiny LCD display, only available on base model cars.

Can you tell me why you would want to pair your phone with the GPS anyway?

Connecting your device via Andriod auto will automatically pair the device via cable inturn disabling the Bluetooth anyway.

So we could use the GPS in the car (Mustang) which worked brilliantly.
I'm not technically minded enough to understand/explain any more than that - thats whats hubbys for!
