I have three children who have worked at McDonald's. Youngest still there. Very flexible around school hours or university hours. Usually easy to swap shifts. Good training. Salary above minimum and lots of opportunities to progress if wanted. None of my children have had any issues.

My daughter works there. They are franchises so difficult to generalise re management but as others have said, pay and flexibility is good.
More than anything it’s a really good life lesson particularly working with the public! However, the negative is she stinks at the end of her shift! Thankfully she drives now as I hated picking her up at midnight when she smelt of burgers 😂 |

My daughter is 17 and started working there about March. She really didn’t want to, I think thought it a bit below her! But she actually really likes it. She’s had a pay rise recently which pleaded her. She gets on well with the managers and other crew. She’s gay and I think this contributed to her finding it hard to find a job as she doesn’t dress girly, but McDonald’s are very inclusive and there’s a lot of other LGBT workers there which is cool. She gets quite a lot of shifts, often 4-10 four times a week but they can off load their shifts to others on the online system. They can’t work past 10 if they are under 18 either which suits us!

SNAP my youngest son did exactly the same started at McDonald’s a month before his 16th Birthday stayed for 8 months, then moved onto Primark while at College. McDonald’s were very good, offered shifts but never pressured to do them, though when they were short he did 6 days straight , think he even got fed up with his free food after that

My daughter has a welcome meeting this evening but we have just received an e mail to say that because she has not officially left school she can not start work.
You have to be 16 and left school. Although Friday is her last day, 2019 leavers are not officially left until the 5th July . So I am not sure what will happen now. I know it states on their website that by law they have to be 16, which she is but it did not mention anything about school Fingers crossed she can start after the 5th July and not have to apply all over again. Very confusing |

My son started 2 months after his 16th birthday but to be fair he is an August baby so had already finished school. I didn’t even realise this was a thing! It’s only 3 weeks away so it may be they set her on to start then, I know it took them a couple of weeks to get my sons contract and uniform sorted anyway.

When I used to recruit junior staff for the bank where I worked, youngsters who’d worked at McD were usually very good at presenting themselves, able to talk about such as team work, attention to detail, customer consideration etc. Apparently McD provide good induction training and on-going monitoring.
I don’t know if this is still the case, but if so then it’s valuable experience for future careers. |
