Mobile Flight delay compensation

Hi, friend of mine was delayed over 4 hours today united airlines Newark to Edinburgh. Is she entitled to compensation? I thought as it wasn’t an Eu airline she wasn’t but I’m not sure. She has been told to contact United by the crew. It was a technical delay. Can anyone advise please? Thanks.

No compensation under EU261. Flying into an EU airport (from outside the EU) it would have to be on a European airline to qualify.

That’s what I thought but wondered why the crew told her to contact United customer care. Would they be likely to reimburse her?

The airline may have its own compensation offer - vouchers, etc

It’s possible that they may be offered vouchers as some form of compensation, happened to a couple of friends of mine with American Airlines. One from New York and one from Florida.
