The Stacey J Aswad Memorial Tour 2008 - Pre Trippie
The Stacey J Aswad Memorial Tour 2008 - Pre - Trippie
Trip Date: 19th May 2008 – 06 June 2008 Location: POP Century Cast: Me – Ian (42), 18 at heart, number one winder upper and DIBB tip collector The Wife – Catherine (42), also 18 at heart, trying to stop Ian winding the kids up Daughter – Sian (10), going on 18 in her head, totally outgoing and has a bet with her dad for $30 that she won’t scream on any ride Son – Euan (5), total daredevil who wishes he was 18 as he isn’t tall enough for the very big rides on this trip I’ll start at the beginning which goes back to 1993. My wife and I first went to Florida in 1993 with another couple and returned again in 1997 with my parents. This was the age before digital cameras, so on return we put together various photo albums, park maps, tickets etc in an album and then along came Sian who has lived with these by her bed virtually full time. When she was about 3 years old, I started to promise her that we would take her to Florida but when she was five and along came Euan, we said we would take him when he was five and old enough to appreciate it. So you have to understand that this girl has been waiting nearly seven years for this trip all the time begging for her younger brother to grow up. I caught her a few times looking at him with a strange gaze, imagining him hanging from the stairs trying to stretch him! In 2007 we decided that 2008 was the year and started to plan as I knew I was due for a decent bonus from work. In August 2007, I got the bonus and didn’t tell anybody that I was booking the holiday and just did it. I then told everybody about a week later when all confirmed. Good dad! The count down over the 6 month period was agony and I was threatened with divorce several times for winding the kids up into a frenzy, but eventually it came round. I had decided to go for 18 nights to do everything properly and this meant taking the kids out of school for a week (which was a task in itself). I also decided to fly on a Monday which meant that we had the weekend to get ourselves organised and in theory wouldn’t be rushed. Literally last minute, we also decided to stay at Bewleys at Manchester Airport the night before, even though we only live 25 minutes from Manchester Airport as I didn’t want to get in any Monday morning rush hour mess. |
