I think this is an emotive thread. I have to say, had first experience at DLP and thought that some of the toilets could have been cleaner at the end of the day but this wasn't the same at our second time. Have never seen cigarette butts on the ground - in fact, saw people cleaning them up and commenting "that's Disney difference for you", certainly compared to UK and Europe theme parks.

Food - agree that the quality isn't always what it should be, but despite the common perception that the French are huge gastrophiles, the food isn't all that (unlike, IMHO, American food and service).

The CMs were, in my experience, generally very polite, well themed and knowledgeable/helpful. As has been mentioned, not the same in your face enthusiasm as the Americans, but I have friends for whom this would be a big plus.

I have taken my daughter for 2 short breaks, each time a more than magical experience for her - I came back second time loving DLP whereas the first time I'd only liked it. I can't afford to take her to WDW in that space of time but do hope to take her there in about 2 years; it'll take me this time to save up!

Getting Excited

This will be my 13th time to DLP and ive been to florida 6 and I can honestly say I LOVE them both! The most dated out of all the parks for me is Magic Kingdom in florida! I'm just thankful DLP is up the road for an affordable mini fix! I think a lot of the difference in the cast members is the language barrier aswell, if someone spoke to me in french i'd be amazed if I could reply, nevermind in a magical, enthusiac way!

I just got back from my first trip to DLP at little over a week ago, and I did notice some differences. While I will leave the bulk of my comments to the trip report i will do (after I finish with the London trip report), I will say I noticed:
the trash - especially while waiting in the fast pass line at BTMRR. Yes, they clean in the morning, but I did not see any guest show people later in the day. trash cans overflowing is just unattravtice, along with unsanitary.
Speaking of which, the towel dispenser in the ladies room next to Toad Hall/Fantasyland train Station was broken the entire time i was there - from 30 Oct to 3 Nov. One hand dryer in a ladies room is a shame!
The CMs were fine. They don't all speak English though. I encountered problems in the shop at my hotel (DLH) when noone spoke English. I stopped over at Sequoia Lodge (where I was originally going to stay) on my last day looking for Robin Hood (I heard he might be there) and the CM I spoke with made a call to find out if was going to be there. I thought that was great.
Smoking - I noticed that alot during my 2 week vacation. While i did not think it was cool for people to spoke in places they should (at DLP), I did notice they were all careful. Not so much in the US - I have 2 burns to prove it!
Rudeness - the only time I really experienced this was at breakfast one day. I got up to get more food and the frogs at the next table decided to steal my salt. Instead of asking to borrow it, they just helped themselves. I gave her the evil eye, so i hope she choked on the darn salt!

I also think it's a common misconception that all CMs speak English - they don't - they all speak at least 2 languages - with all of our continental cousins (!), some other languages need to be spoken as well! Our server at Auberge de Cendrillon was amazing, though, she was fluent in 5 languages and lovely with it - that's pretty amazing!

Would agree as far as the 'fast food' goes. But the 'fine cuisine' was amazing in our experience. Walt's was wonderful, and the California Grill 7-course tasting menu was an incredible experience.

Ah, missed these! Did Cafe Mickey's (very nice); Auberge de Cendrillon (tasty but not really worth the price -for the food, but the overall experience probably justified it) - we must be the only people who really didn't like Blue Lagoon though!

can I be both? I went on a day trip before I'd been the WDW and hated it. 4 years later decided to give it another go and stayed a few days this time and LOVED it. I think you just need to appreciate it for what it is, enjoy the surroundings (because in my opinion they are FAR better than at MK) and I don't think I really did that on my day trip
