I read it aswell, we used it loads last week and it’s a great tool. From what I read it’s not Disney that’s implemented the charge, it’s the company that own the fuel rods.

You can't advertise them, as they did, as 'Unlimited Free Swaps' getting people to pay massively over the odds for a poor charger (similar money would buy you one 10x the size on Amazon) then just remove the free swaps.
Fuel Rod have just been hit with a class action lawsuit in the US. Disney could have been next as they hosted and promoted the machines.
Nickel and diming and shady practise. Appalling.

The company has reconsidered after terrible publicity and the class action so Disney has dropped the charge for now too.
My son spoke to the company who makes them and they said their charge to replace was $1 but the retailer was free to add on their own charges too which is Disney’s case was $2 making the total of $3.
Anyway that’s been shelved...for now anyway!.
