Aer Lingus - aircraft type knowledge
We are looking to book for 2021 probably end of July/beginning of August due to A level results and a younger child in secondary school.
We fly Aer Lingus Dub-Mco and last time flew back business class. The plane we flew back on was an old one so business class, although lovely, was a 2-2-2. Boeing? This plane layout isn't even listed in the seat map section on the Aer Lingus website. I don't know if there is any way to guarantee the new refurbished business class layout (assuming no plane change) which came in 4 years ago. Does anyone out there have specific Aer Lingus plane knowledge that can help me out? Do they use different aircraft on different days and how would I find this out? It is snowing here, so I am comforting myself with Disney planning!

Best is to look at something like FlightRadar24 and look at the DUB-MCO route at plane usage on there. I believe their only long haul plane is the A330-200 or A330-300 and they've only used the A330-200 in recent days looking at FR24. They are due to receive the A350 shortly but not announced which routes this will be on.

When did you last fly long haul with Aerlingus. They only have A330 now. The Boeing were retired a very long time ago.
The new A350 is likely to be used on different routes. Most airlines use their older fleet for MCO runs, just look at the 747s for example with certain airlines. Aerlingus business class is a mix of 1-2-1 and 1-2-2 alternate rows.

I flew in business class August 2019 this review sums up what I was expecting, which, like you point out, was the new business class layout and what we actually got was an 80s version of business class.
If you scroll down that review to "cabin and seats" you will see the seats that greeted me. I know this feels like my diamond shoes are too tight but we paid a lot to upgrade to business class and I would like to feel like I got my money's worth. Not to feel like I had stepped into a plane featured on the TV show Dallas! Hence why I was trying to avoid booking that one if it is only used on certain days. Apparently that review says they are A330-200.

I think the problem with that review was it was written about 2 years ago, unfortunately, those planes are still in service and are coming up on 19 years of age

Looks like the A350's that were coming to Aer Lingus are now being transferred to Iberia. They still have some on order (5 I believe) however Aer Lingus long haul fleet is only planned up to 2023 and the A350 is not included up until then. Aviation rumour is they are going down the A330 route instead.

This is why I am keen to avoid them.
Do they use these planes all the time coming back from MCO or was I just unlucky?

airfleets/flottecie/...ctive-a330.htm - This is Aer Lingus active A330 fleet. 5 -200 and 9 -300. If you click on each plane is has the history.
This last week they used EI-DUO and EI-GEY. DUO is a Aer Lingus 13 year old plane and GEY is an ex-QATAR. Might be a bit of pot luck which plane you get. |
