AKL chances of a partial savannah view

We have booked a “standard” view at AKL for our forthcoming trip. For any dibbers who have stayed there what is the prospect of a partial savannah view? Also is it best to request on check in or try and sort it in advance?

Any advice or tips are welcome.

I would say Fax them between 10-7 days before and asked if you could potentially have a partial Savannah view room, it is unlikely you will get a full view as they are a different pricing category but quiet a few Standard view rooms have partial view and can not be classed as Savannah as there are holding areas in front of them.

We have stayed twice with a booking for a standard view. Both times, we have asked for a Savannah view on check in and both times we have been given one. The one time we did have to wait one night but they moved us the next day.

Have a look at Touring Plans as you can look at room views from the 4 trails - it's free and not part of their paid service. Ostrich trail is facing the savannah one side and the car park the other, giraffe is pool or bus stop, zebra and kudu have savannah's both sides. I requested a room in either zebra or kudu as I thought there was more change of a partial savannah view and ended up with one right at the end of kudu. Zebra and Kudu are the longest trails and you could end up with a room quite a way from the lobby but we thought it was worth it for the view.

Both of our previous visits had partial savannah view and booked standard room. One we requested, the other not. This year will be doing my room request via touring plans again and asking for same location - you can always ask to be moved when you get there if not happy and if they are not completely full will always try to accommodate 👌

I'm doing a room request with Touring Plans as well and will be asking for a partial savannah view.

I have used touring plans twice and asked for a kudu trail room and both times I have had a savanna view.

You can request an 'obstructed view' room which looks onto the Savannah though may be more of a side view or you have a pole in the way so it is not the perfect view they can charge $$s for.

How do you do a request with touring plans? And will it work for DVC points rental?

We’ve had partial savannah in the main building every time we’ve stayed there. But at kidani it was a carpark and I was told I wouldn’t get a view of animals even though I hadn’t asked for one. I did ask to be moved as our first room was practically in the carpark. I don’t mind carpark view but not taxis at my patio doors).
