Sadly some of us on here remember it from Jet at 4/11d a gallon.

If you were a rich kid then Shell was 5/3d

I cant remember that but definitely remember them blocking the pumps when it went up to 90p a litre.
It's used to cost me £30 for a full tank of diesel a week. I'm not too bad off as my car is in eco mode, I got to work out of town 40mile dound trip every day and take kids to training every night and I fill up every 2-3weeks.

Because I drive diesel and buy new I tend to run very low then fill up completely. That way it keeps the sludge at the bottom to a minimum.

£76 last week.

Passed my driving test in 1969 when I had to have a man with a red flag walking in front of me.

I can't remember what I had for breakfast today so no chance with petrol prices 51 years ago. Passed in an Austin 1100 if anyone recalls them.

Mick

A couple of years behind you Mick but also passed in the Austin 1100. Had a matchstick tapped to the rear windscreen to help with the reversing round a corner.

Before the car had a Lambretta GT200 and remember putting a shot of Redex in the tank think it was a 1p. Also had the compulsory tiger tail hanging off the rear chrome carrier.

Those were the days!

My dad had an Austin 1100, in fact after the first one got very rusty he went and got another one. All second or third hand as that was all he could afford.
