The Best Bug Spray

Please can you tell me which bug spray you find the most effective.

I always struggle with bites.
I'm talking great big swollen red, blistered, weeping, whole leg throbbing bites and it's always me

Thankfully the kids never get bitten.

I've read up each time and each time I try something different, but once one has bitten that's it I'm doomed... they all attack!

I would love to hear from others that have this and what you find works the best for you please.

I use Neosporin once I've been bitten, but if I can prevent it, it would make me so happy. (other than having to cover up completely in the August sun that is)

Thank you

We've always used Jungle Formula which seems to work well.

I know a lot of people don't like this stuff but I buy 100% deet from amazon and plaster it all over myself!

Yes, its got chemicals but I'd rather that then spend my holiday in misery with terrible bites, so I can totally sympathise there with you! My GP now gives me antibiotics to take on holiday in case of infected bites.

So far, since using the 100% deet my holidays have been bite free but it hasn't been tested in Florida yet, just the med!

The 100% deet will be coming to Florida this year with me for the first time!

I am the same as you, it's miserable isn't it?
I now take Vit B and Garlic tablets about 2-3 weeks before, use Avon SSS and take an anti histamine every day whilst out there. If I do get bitten even after all of above I use Asda bite cream with Hydrocortisone in it, great stuff!

I do not think that any of us have even been bitten in 8 Orlando trips, including 5 or 6 airboat rides. We do not use any bug repellant at all.

We have travelled mostly between February and July/August.

Thank you so much.

I've gone ahead and ordered the Avon and will see how that it.

Fingers crossed!

Poor you. I recently read your trip report from 2014 and saw the photos of your bites. They looked so painful and itchy! I've only been to Florida once and did not get bitten but I take vitamin B12 daily and think that probably helps. I can also recommend Avon So Soft - it also smells and feels really nice!

On the strength on your trip report, I've booked Bahama Bay for the second week of our trip next year. Really looking forward to it!

We haven't been bitten much in years, mainly due to Disney regularly spraying all their resorts for bugs. The only time we've suffered was over at the Buena Vista Outlets and not just mozzies but fire ants too. Nasty critters left a blazing trail all over our legs which needed lots of treatments to calm back down. Other than that we got a couple of bites over at the boat dock at the Contemporary Resort at night. They do have bats over in that area that love a good mozzie buffet and special bat homes close to the water to keep the mozzie numbers down. I'm hoping we can get away with a small bottle of JungleFormula repellant again this year.

We always use this. I'm wary of the chemicals in deet so avoid it now we've found SkinSo Soft works well. DH even uses it when he goes fishing in the UK & Florida & doesn't get bitten.
