Witnessing a tragic event
If you ever think its smart or clever to speed in a car...think again, you're an idiot who deserves jail. You could leave people with only memories and witnesses with horrific memories that need never have happened.
My husband and I are now ones with witness memories. We are currently in Malta, without a care in the world (as you do when you're on holiday). This evening, walking along the seafront, we witnessed a young woman hit by a car at high speed on a crossing, then watched the car swerve and hit several cars before it stopped. It was so quick. My heart aches and my stomach feels sick as my mind replays how we watched her fly through the air into opposite side of the road. Slow motion and rag doll comes to mind. God knows what speed the driver was doing. We have never seen speed limit signs in the short time we have been here. I offered to help as I'm a nurse but I was declined...there was so many people, distressed, sobbing people, sick ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ men filming it and threatening young women who tried to stop him. There was so much blood. My husband picked up her purse, phone and money..and, omg, a strap of her sandal that had broken off. A local man told us every day something like this happens, bad driving is commonplace here, regardless of you are or where you are. People put the girl in the recovery position, so a small hope, I don't know, I guess I'll never know and I won't find out. When did the thrill of the fast lane outweigh a person's life? Sorry this is heavy, dibbers, I didn't know where else to vent my thoughts.

I'm really not sure what to say but I'm sorry you had to witness that, it amazes me how people seem to film anything now. x

How awful for you witness such an horrific event. I can't believe there were people filming it, some people have no compassion.

How awful
There was a big accident in our town recently where a lady was dragged under a lorry and it took a few seconds for it to stop. The newspaper said they were shocked by the amount of people stood watching and filming toe poor lady! Why on earth would anyone want to film anything like that?

I just googled it and The times of Malta news say she's critical. That's so sad. I feel for you having to witness that and I hope the sicko filming it get's his phone stamped on.

So sorry to hear you witnessed something awful.
Sad to hear also that the roads are still very dangerous in Malta. My mum is from Malta and I remember visiting there often until my teens and the roads were always dangerous. When I last visited 20 years ago they had only 1 set of traffic lights on the island and it was a mad free for all at intersections. No real rules for the roads, or so it seemed. I hated getting in cars or on buses. You would hope that incidents like this would be learnt from but it doesn't sound like that's the case. |

I didn't know where to look, I tried local Malta news but must've been too early for it to make the news. Thank you for letting me know.
Edited to say i found it. Both DH and I thought she was a young woman, not that it matters and the driver hit at least three cars, we saw that too. Poor woman and her family, my thoughts are with them and hopes she recovers and he rots in jail.

I saw that on the local fb and news sites... people are just strange.
My DH had a speeding idiot hit his lorry trailer. He was driving along when he felt something hit him hard that hard it made him jump in the seat... Fortunately rather than slam his brakes on he slowed down and by doing so saved the lads life because it dragged him to the side rather than shoving him right under the trailer. When my DH got out and went to look he thought whoever was dead the car was such a mess.. As it turns out he broke both arms and legs and had some minor internal injuries.. But my DH said it was horrific to see, peering into the car not knowing what your going to find. The lad was 19 in a fast Renault Megane sport , overtook one lorry realised there was a car coming and cut between 2 lorries and couldn't stop so hit my husband. Police reckoned he was doing about 80mph... ridiculous thing was he was just a mile from where he lived. We got a letter last year saying it had been to caught and he'd got 7 points and £300 fine... |
