Aulani Waves and Disneyland Days: An Ohana Adventure - Day 11 Lets try the splash zone this time

Introduction and Index

Day 11 - Lets try the splash zone this time
Universal Studios Hollywood, Super Nintendo World in the daytime, Isla Nu-bar, Beetlejuice, Waterworld show, Butterbeer, Three Broomsticks, voodoo donuts and fireworks from our room.

We were up around 7am - the beds were very comfortable and we all had a good night’s sleep. We got ready and headed downstairs for breakfast. We paid a little bit more to have an ‘executive floor’ room. This from what we understood had access to an executive lounge with a limited continental breakfast.

It ended up being a total waste of time because you had to go down to the main restaurant at breakfast and only adults in the room were entitled to breakfast and they went heavy on the upsell to the full breakfast… some perk! I queried and they said that was definitely correct and tried to charge an extortionate amount (over $100) to upgrade us all to full breakfast. I declined and asked if Andy and I could get our breakfasts to go. She agreed and we put some pastries in a to go box and grabbed some coffees. The coffees were nice, the muffin was OK but the pastries were vile, they tasted like cheese! It's like they had gone off!

We had planned to share them on the walk in but chucked them in the bin - do not bother! I couldn’t believe how cheap they were to not include kids! Needless to say, we didn’t bother with breakfast there the next day.

You could book a Universal view room without paying for the Executive floor so I’d just to do this next time tbh.

By about 8:30am we were on our way to the park!

We decided to make up for the breakfast fail by visiting lard lad again and trying the cookie spiral croissant and a cold brew from French Street Bistro!

Oh my the cookie spiral croissant was next level - if you see one get one! Yum! The girls enjoyed the donut just as much as the day before and it more than made up for the lack of hotel breakfast.

Nice and full, it was time to do some rides!

We went down the escalator to the lower lot and went straight to Jurassic Park, which had a 0 minute wait and then onto the Mummy which was also a walk on!

We went in to Super Nintendo World again but it was packed! We browsed the shops and then got in line for Bowser’s Challenge again. This time, it said 70 minutes but took 40 minutes.

We liked some of the t shirts and PJs in the 1 Up store but it was all quite pricey.

We all loved it and the visors worked perfectly this time so I was able to get a pretty good score!

Next, we tried out Isla Nu Bar. We had seen this online and the cocktails looked pretty decent and they weren’t pre-mixed.

We got a 'Bird of Paradise' - Passionfruit rum, white rum, guava nectar, passionfruit puree, lime juice, orgeat and a 'Mai Tai' - Rum, dark rum, pineapple, orange and lime juice. The girls shared a boba drink.

We took the drinks inside the Jurassic Cafe and saved a booth while Andy lined up to get some lunch.

Andy and I shared the mojo pork with rice and beans and the girls shared the Isla burger and wedges. We really enjoyed the drinks and the pork was OK - a bit bland.

The girls enjoyed the burger. We also wanted to try the little cake jar - it had layers of cake, frosting and jam and some little candy bones and a gummy sweet that looked like amber had a fake mosquito printed on it to look like it was inside (at least I hope it was printed on it and not just landed on it before we ate!

After lunch, we went onto Transformers the ride

Then, we went to meet the dinos that were doing the meet and greet - the interactions were really funny.

We did some more rides and browsed some more shops, bought some souvenirs and then headed over to Hogsmeade for a bit.

We were trying to decide what to do next and all said we quite fancied seeing Waterworld again! This time, the girls said they wanted to sit in the splash zone and just get totally soaked as it was a really hot day.

We were waiting in the shade for a bit before the queue opened up and Beetlejuice randomly turned up and jumped out to scare us. He stayed and chatted for a bit and joked with Andy about how he was going to steal me from him and then said come on lets have a picture - she wants a picture then posed like this:

He was very funny.

The park closed much earlier than the night before because (as we found out later) they were practicing for HHN! So, we were lucky we got to stay late the night before and experience everything at night.

The show was awesome, some of the actors were different than the day before but it was another great show. We got DRENCHED by the actors in the warm up - we knew it was going to happen as we’d seen it the day before, they literally chuck buckets and shoot water cannons at the crowd and the jet skis splash people during the stunts. We all had lightweight clothes on so dried out pretty quickly.

The cast were meeting people after the show so the girls got a quick selfie with one of the actors

We were getting hungry again so decided to have dinner at Three Broomsticks.

It was very quiet in there and we got served quickly. We got the Spare Ribs Platter, a Herb Roast Chicken Platter and some chicken tenders between the four of us. We also got the sticky toffee pudding and a butterbeer. The butterbeer was delicious as always, the rest of the food was just OK, we loved the theming here but probably wouldn’t rush to eat here again.

The busy couple of days had really caught up on us at this point and we all fancied heading back to the hotel to freshen up and chill for the rest of the night. We split into two teams at this point, Immy and I walked back to our room and packed a little and Andy and Izzy walked to Citywalk to pick up some Voodoo donuts for the next day

We chilled in the room watching TV, taking in turns to shower, getting packed and ready for the next day and having A couple of donuts, leaving the rest for breakfast.

We also heard some bangs outside and realised that there was a fireworks show in the parks and you could see some dancing and a show at the Waterworld Stage. I googled it and found out it was HHN rehearsals which was cool - we watched it from our window for a bit then called it a night.

Tomorrow: Disneyland Resort!

That cookie spiral croissant that you had for breakfast looks amazing and will firmly be on the list to try!
