Aulani Waves and Disneyland Days: An Ohana Adventure - Day 14 Why do they have coats and umbrellas?

Introduction and Index

Day 14 - Why do they have coats and umbrellas?
California Adventure, Jack Jack Cookie Num Nums, Incredicoaster, Radiator Springs Racers, Pym Test Kitchen, Soarin’, margaritas and dinner at San Fransokyo Square, an evening at Pixar Pier and watching World of Color.

We were dressed and ready to leave the room at about 7:15am today, ready to hit California Adventure!

We got to the park by 7:30am and walked to Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout (The Former Tower of Terror!) The queue was about 5 minutes and we got into the pre show room by 7:40am. The ride was so much fun - they’ve done a great job re-theming this, although I still prefer Tower of Terror.

As we came out we noticed the queue was even shorter so we went on again!

After this we wanted to try and squeeze in one more ride before non hotel guests were let in, so fast walked to Web Slingers and managed to get in line by 7:59 We loved this ride it was amazing - I also managed to get best in vehicle and as a group we got best vehicle this day (for a fleeting moment as the park only opened 30 minutes before) but still! It did bring out our competitive side though and my arms were aching afterwards.

Spiderman themed lights on the Magic Bands!

After the ride, it was time to get some breakfast and our choice today was Jack Jack Cookie Num Nums over in Pixar Pier We got 3 to share between the 4 of us and Andy picked up some Joffreys coffee and water for us.

Soooooo yummy!

We hoped to go on to Incredicoaster but it was down so said we would come back later.

We strolled down to Bing Bong’s Sweet Treats for a browse and saw Joy and Sadness on the way.

We had a look at the refreshers they had available and decided we’d come back another time as they sounded great but we were too full.

Next, we went on to Toy Story Midway Mania with scores of 165,600, 113,600, 151,700 and 194,600 for me, Immy, Izzy and Andy, respectively.

After this, the girls saw there was no wait for Jessie’s Critter Carousel so went on this too

Next, we walked to Cars Land and browsed for a bit then got in line for Radiator Springs - it was 45 minutes, which we thought was worth it for how good it is. We all love this ride so much

After Radiator Springs, I checked the app and Incredicoaster said it was open and a 10 minute wait! We knew by the time people saw the app that wouldn’t stay that short for long, so we fast walked there and it had got up to about 20 mins, which wasn’t too bad for such a great ride!

After the ride, we browsed in the animation shop and then went on to Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, which was a walk on. It was so hot today, it was a welcome little break in the air conditioning.

We had a walk around the Coco area and Pixar Pier again then walked to Pym test kitchen, for lunch! Well, a little bit of lunch. With so much food to try, we wanted a bit of everything so literally just bought one between the 4 of us - we chose a “Not so little chicken sandwich” which is Fried Chicken Breast, Teriyaki and Red Chili Sauces, and Pickled Cabbage Slaw on Brioche, served with crispy Potato Bites.

For those that don’t know, Pym Test Kitchen is an Ant Man and the Wasp themed restaurant with ridiculously large and small items on the menu.

They also had pretzels being zapped into giant ones above the queue areaSo our chicken was huge and the bun was small. It was really nice and good to try a bit of it and have room to try other things later on. Would have liked a few more tater tots though!

Next, we walked round to Soarin’ Around the World to see Patrick

After the ride, we started walking back over to San Fransokyo Square and bumped in to Pluto and stopped for a quick picture

San Fransokyo was PACKED! We stopped at Rita’s Turbine Blenders for some drinks first. The girls shared this Baymax blue raspberry drink with peach loops in it and Andy and I got a Rita's Grand Lemon-Lime Margarita (Gold Tequila and splash of Orange Liqueur) each which was LUSH! Side note - I got ID’d

It was a good job we had the drinks to keep us going as every queue for food was at least 20 people deep!

There was one thing on our mind and that was Pork Wonton Nachos so we got in line at Lucky Fortune Cookery. The queue took half an hour(!) but to be fair the food was excellent. The Pork Wonton Nachos came with hoisin-glazed pork, cheese sauce, spicy aïoli. pickled cabbage, jalapeños and toasted sesame seeds. This was another 10/10 dish for us - would 100% get this again.

We also bought a Baymax Macaron - this had marshmallow and Nutella inside and was delicious (and super cute).

After lunch we walked back to Cars Land and saw Lightning McQueen driving through!

Then we went on Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!

And a few more rides before ending up at Pixar Pier for some Angry Dogs for another snack (these were “Slightly Annoyed Dogs” (a non spicy Hot Dog served with Potato Chips)) they were soooo small and set us back over $40 with a couple of drinks

We all had a go at the Pixar Pier Games - specifically the Heimlich Candy Corn Toss but we just weren’t lucky today.

Izzy bought a lemon soft serve from Adorable Snowman’s Frosted Treats and she said it was ‘okay’.

We had done so well with rides today it was now time to secure our spot for World of Color. We were so excited for this as when we went in 2018 it was down for refurb.

We sat on the floor and relaxed for a while, we were on the second tier from the front at the front by the railings. We got told that the very bottom tier you might get wet so we were happy with our happy medium.

As the show was about to start they asked everyone to stand so they could fit more people in.

We noticed that a mum and daughter in the tier in front of us had brought waterproof jackets and umbrellas - surely it wouldn’t get that wet?

The show was awesome - great music and beautiful - it made me cry it was so impressive. Near the end the wind picked up a bit and we all got soaked - it wasn’t a splash it was a really heavy mist that just got us all soaking - the mum and daughter were obviously pros!

After the show, we walked with all the crowds towards the exit and then walked back to our hotel to call it a night.

California Adventure looks like a great park and very different to anything in WDW! Your food and drink all looks great especially those pork nachos and Baymax macaroon!
