Video door bells
Good evening guys
Well I suspect I am very late to the party with this. We are not at all technical so how easy are these video doorbells really to Install? Would we need an electrician? And are they worth it? Any recommendations gratefully received as always Thanks Sas x

Ring is pretty straightforward - you can literally stick it in the front door, no drilling or anything required... ring pro is wired but ring is wireless. You do need good internet connection near your door though...

Thank you for you reply. Does that mean it's battery operated? Do you have to keep changing them? X

We got blink 2, its a camera not a doorbell though. They are good, they run on batteries and the app gives us a notification on our phones when someone has approached the area where the camera is.

We bought the Ring with the rechargeable battery a couple of years ago. With our model the battery just slides out the bottom of the bell to charge, some you had to unscrew. We also bought a transformer plug which fits into a waterproof connection on the back of the doorbell, it comes with several metres of cable and just plugs into the nearest socket. Despite having a fantastic WiFi signal throughout the house and all over the garden it was absolute rubbish at the exact point we wanted the bell so we got a Chime Pro, placed just inside the front door, which allows a perfect WiFi Connection.

I'm interested in this too OP. I got a ring door bell free frOM BT but when I asked DH to set it up he said we would needed a separate doorbell & we dont have one! So is it ok without a separate doorbell? Can you just run it on batteries then without plugging it into the mains.
Sorry OP dont mean to highjack your thread I am clueless about these things too!

Ideally you want a chime as well which is the ringer for inside the house. Ring also requires you to have a subscription that you pay monthly for.
There has also been a high theft rate on ring doorbells which have only been stuck to the door frame and not screwed on. Ring is probably still the slickest and easy to use but there are many others now. Some don't require subscriptions, some even come with solar panel chargers so you don't need to take them down to charge. |
