Feedback with video messaging

During this lockdown, I’m keeping in touch with my vulnerable parents by phone or Facebook. I tried yesterday to do a video call with them on Facebook messenger, and as there was 4 of us, feedback was really bad and noisy, so we had to give up.
Wonder if anyone has come across this and resolved it? I don’t know of any other apps that might be better and my mum hates technology as it is
I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks.

We had it yesterday on a group video call. Turns out one of the group were using their laptop and it was the laptop fan which was causing the feedback.

When we use video conferencing for work now they have advised us that due to feedback, it’s better to keep the device you are using well away from other devices and where possible use ear phones connected through a lead to your device. (The second one obviously not an option if there are a couple of people in one household you’re speaking to).

Have you tried starting the call with everyone on mute and then unmuting one by one until you hear who is "guilty"?

That may be a start.

I think it’s already been mentioned but you can’t work two devices in the same room. Mute one of the microphones and listen through one but see the images on both. Does that make sense?

Yes it does. We did try that but didn’t seem to work.
