I have booked Gatwick to Tampa, August 17th to Sept 1st for 2 adults, 2 teens and a large Avis car for £2000 with BA.

Over the moon with that price to be fair

On BA site just now, Tues 27 Jul - Sun 8 Aug, 2 adults, 3 16 year olds, direct Heathrow -MCO return plus medium car £2879 (hand luggage ony)

Did you find that on ba.com or on something like Skyscanner or ITA Matrix. Was there no choice of hotels at Heathrow for the night before rather than Gatwick? Is the car just for the one way from Gatwick to Heathrow on the day you travel out or for your stay in Orlando.
