Where to stay in Windermere ?

We had a day trip visit a few years ago to lake Windermere as part of a camping trip .I would love to go back for a short break .but have no idea where to start ! Somewhere central would be nice ,either self catering or hotel.
Has anyone got any suggestions for me to look up?
Need something to look forward to !

We went down 2 years ago but stayed in the premier inn at Kendal, think its around 10miles from windermere. All the windermere hotels were very expensive for our dates!

We used to go every year until we discovered Florida. Always stayed in a rented house, cottage, or apartment. Try Heart of the Lakes or Cumbrian Cottages.

We stayed at the Craig Manor Hotel in September and loved it there. Great breakfasts and comfortable rooms - we had a quite-far-away lake view across the gardens. Short walk into Bowness on Windermere and loads to do in the area. We'd definitely stay there again.

We stayed in Bowness on Windermere in a hotel and doggy stayed too, It was called Lonsdale house and you walk into Windermere in a few minutes. It was lovely we had lots of walks, went on the ferry and walked to the top of Windermere. We also went to the waterfalls and had lots of pub meals! I would love to go back

Low Wood Bay, a little further along in Ambleside is lovely, but again a pricey option.

Don't mean to be pedantic but do you mean Windermere or Bowness or South Lakes?

I’d say bowness on Windermere,it’s a vague memory quite a long time ago! and wasn’t sure on the name of the area until I started looking it up again
