Rental Car Insurance

When I first started going to Florida years I understood that I had to carry ID and the vehicle rental agreement while I was driving at all times. Paperless car hire would appear to be the way ahead these days. Does anybody know what the score is now regarding proof of insurance if you get stopped or have a shunt?

Unless things have changed considerably since we last hired in Nov 2019 I haven't heard of paperless car hire.

It's certainly a condition that you keep the rental agreement in the car (glove box?) and that will certainly show, amongst other things, which insurance cover you have.

Carrying your photocard D/L is also useful as you must carry photo ID for legal purposes say being stopped by law enforcement. If you don't have a photo D/L you must carry your passport with you at all times - again for legal reasons not the car hire T&Cs.

PS to Dr JJs response.

I could retrieve the Alamo email from my phone I guess but I don't have an app and the Alamo guy has never mentioned it.

Mick’s covered it! I just put the rental agreement straight in the glove box before pulling out.
I always have my wallet on me at all times with my driving licence in.

One slight difference. Joan puts it away as soon as she's tuned the radio to Magic 107.7

I should have added Hertz haven't gone paperless yet as AFAIK but I could cope if they did.

I hope that we will be seen "sprinting" from APM 4 in November heading for garage B to pick our full size Alamo car again.

But genuinely I won't mind slowing down on level 1 to get our VTP tag again - I sadly check their web site every day.

Every Avis, Alamo, National or Dollar car I have hired since 1994 in Florida (so that's over 100) had a small Insurance slip either in the glove box or tucked behind the visor.

Mainly they are about 4" x 6" and confirm the Agency does self Insurance and under what Statute it's governed.
