Starling Account - can you pre-load with dollars when rate is good?

Hi there

I'm figuring out which card to take with us. I've still got a Halifax clarity from last time and a nationwide flex account.

I want a card that I can load up with dollars in advance as and when the exchange rate is favourable - is this possible with a Starling Account or is this a straightforward account rather than pre-paid?

I have a starling account and it’s a straight up back account (no fees abroad though etc)

yes the rate at the instant you buy, it is also a mastercard so is the best rate ... no fees no charges at all

The account does pay interest, i cant remember how much as i dont keep money in it if I'm not using it

Yeah that’s right. I’ve never used starling abroad (got it during lockdown) but I’ve used Monzo and that was absolutely fine and it’s the same rate as it’s MasterCard

I’ve recently opened a Starling account. I wondered this too initially. I’ve kept a Revolut account as well. I can pre load that with favourable exchange rates.

Thanks everyone, I might look into getting a Monzo to load up with dollars when I have the cash then I'm not tempted to spend it beforehand

We use starling and just shift the money into respective "spaces" which I find really useful for stopping dipping in. Once it's labelled with a purpose and s picture makes it much more meaningful. I have 15 or so different pots. I love it !

Sorry monzo just converts the same as Starling at the time of purchase , your unable to top up with $, Revolut allows this though.
