Unlimited fast pass at US/IOA
Hi,
I understand most people do a split stay Disney/Universal to benefit from the fast pass offer at Universal. Two questions on this: 1. Is it all Universal hotels? 2. Do you have to buy your park tickets in a package with the hotel? Looking at going in April next year. Thanks!

no
you only get them at Royal Pacific, Hard Rock Hotel and Portofino Bay as long as you have a hotel room in one of the 3 hotels listed above, you'll get express passes from check in to check out. No matter who you book the hotel with. you will also need tickets, but you can arrange that separately |

Hi
You only get front of line passes if you stay at RPR, HRH or PBR. You do not have to buy tickets as part of a package. |

Above correct. Just want to add that it is well worth the money and usually cheaper to get a hotel rather than express passes separately.

We did this two weeks ago and stayed at rpr. We had a villa so was a bit dubious to pay for a nights hotel when we could of driven 20 minutes to get back to the villa but it was so worth the money and would 100% do it again

You can get the front of line pass from the hotel without park tickets, but unless you have a ticket to get you into the park they are pretty useless

Just to clarify here - most people do not do a split stay at Disney/Universal. The majority of people do not stay onsite at either.
If you mean that the reason most people pay extra to stay 1 or 2 nights at Universal is to get the included Express Passes then, yes, maybe that's true. You only get the included Express passes if you stay at the Royal Pacific, Hard Rock, or Portofino Bay hotels. You don't get the Express Passes if you stay at Cabana Bay or Sapphire Falls - but you do get early entry into the parks. A hotel stay does not automatically include park tickets. However, you don't have to buy your park tickets in a package with the hotel in order to get the "free" Express Passes. You can buy the hotel stay separately from the park tickets and you will still get the Express Passes (assuming you stay at one of the 3 hotels mentioned above).

Its very worth it as a family of four. RPR Club Level for two nights is cheaper than Express pass.
I'd still consider doing it as a couple if it was additional nights (not dual booking) as the hotels are very good and Express Pass is an excellent perk.
