We’ve got a week in Keswick in the Lake District in July booked for lots of hiking and outdoorsy stuff. Then we are off to St Ives, Cornwall (DH hometown) for a week at the end of August. Although we are sad not to be heading stateside this summer, we are looking forward to walking, canoeing, body boarding, beaches, cream teas, pasties etc.

I did look at the Lake District as we’ve never been but it’s such a long way from Wales so we decided to look a little closer.
It looks beautiful and it will be so nice just to be able to get out and enjoy the countryside and also the coast for your St Ives trip after such a long winter spent in this lockdown. I hope you enjoy the trips. It is sad not to be travelling overseas this year yet again, but hopefully we can all plan for 2022 safely soon |

DD, it’s good to hear that Air b n b were good last year, I’ve been looking at places with them for this year, just can’t decide where/when and be confident to book, I need a holiday to plan!

They were brilliant last year, here in Wales we weren’t allowed to travel outside our immediate area In October and I had an Airbnb in Devon booked. I cancelled easily via the website and the refund was immediately returned to my credit card.
This year we’ve made sure we booked cottages that offer late cancellations, which the majority are actually offering. The first one we can cancel for a full refund 24 hrs before we travel, the second one is 5 days before. However if we cancelled after those deadlines, we would still get 50% - first night fee refunded so not a total loss. It’s not only for Covid cancellation either, we could simply change our mind and cancel at the last minute (although I wouldn’t do that as it’s unfair to the host) You simply choose the cancellation flexibility option in the filter drop down and only accommodation with flexible cancellations are shown. Each description then informs you whether it’s 24 hr or 5 days notice needed. It does mean you can start looking and make sure you have a booking in place for the summer. The prices were really good too. I’ve heard of holiday parks charging over £1000 for a week in July, both our Airbnb’s cost between £550-£610 and the latter one is in peak school holiday period. We chose mid range properties, there were many cheaper ones of decent quality. We requested a cottage with a hot tub for just £100 more but sadly the host had decided to withdraw his listing for this year due to the uncertainty of the pandemic |

Got a few things booked in the hope something goes ahead!
1st april 4 nights in derbyshire just got a premier inn booked for this one which we transfered from October last year Then we are booked to stay in a lodge just outside of polperro cornwall over may half term. We have stayed on the site several times in the past and feels like our second home. Then august iv got a holiday to florida booked but as a back up iv booked the same lodge in Cornwall again to cover my bases. 🙈 We were also ment to be going to centre parcs next week but thats been cancelled and iv moved it to jan 2022. I also have a eurostar voucher i need to use but with disneyland paris looking so uncertain im not sure what to do with that yet. |

Some great plans there, we love Polperro. It was the first place DH and I went to on holiday together so holds special memories for us.
Premier Inn was another company that refunded us promptly and without any problems last year and I believe they have a free cancellation system in place this year too. I do hope the Florida trip goes ahead for you, but I think it’s wise to have a back up plan. I had hoped Disney Paris may had been an alternative for us this year but it’s looking rather doubtful. We had hoped to book a big Florida trip this year to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary, and milestone birthdays for DH and DD but sadly, it’s not going to happen |

We have Lanzarote in September just dh and I, first holiday with no kids attempt three !
Flights from last year, hotel pay on arrival. I am hoping for a week in Cornwall for all of us. I have realised from reading your thread why I can’t find suitable accommodation though with people double booking with the intention of dumping if a better offer comes along ! |

I do hope you enjoy your first holiday without the children. DH and I our first (and only due to last year’s holiday cancellations) couples holiday in 2019 and it was lovely and chilled out. We picked an adults only hotel, and have booked another for October this year. They really cater well for couples
Our bookings in the UK are unlikely to be changed now we’ve booked them, we’ve taken the decision that flying without vaccination is very unlikely and DD won’t be vaccinated by July I’m sure. I do agree it’s frustrating that people double book, but I think it’s inevitable that they will this year given the uncertainty around flying. It’s the same as people double booking ADRs at Disney, it makes it very difficult for others to get what they want, but it’s commonly done. It could mean that there will be a lot of availability last minute for holidays here if people cancel. Edited to add: Airbnb have a huge amount of accommodation available for peak weeks in Cornwall, and all holiday areas, at the moment. A search for the last week in July comes up with over 300+ properties Edited at 11:26 AM. |

I am confident this week that Lanzarote will happen. I have had my vaccine already and hopefully husband will soon. We haven’t stayed in an all inclusive hotel for years and it does look quite posh ( well for us anyway ! )
Admittedly with Cornwall I probably am being quite fussy as to facilities and where I want to go, we need three bedrooms and don’t want a caravan. Son is 23, daughter 16 and we need space. When we know about daughters GCSE’s I am hoping we will be able to go away before the official school holiday starts. |

Have you tried Aspects cottages for Cornwall? Lots of lovely properties with new ones recently added so more likely to have availability. We have used them several times and had nothing but great experiences. This includes having to cancel last October due to the rule of 6 and getting a full refund the next day.
