Reader for mini discs

When my boys were little (pre-IPhone days) we had the worst mini camcorder that didn’t work very well at all. It worked with mini discs that look like this.

Any videos I have of the boys when they are little are on these discs. They are mini discs- not full size ones.

I have nothing to play them on and was thinking of getting some kind of disc reader. Can anyone please recommend a disc that would allow me to play them and save them.
Thank you

They should work in amy standard PC dvd drive if you have one. There is a smaller indent in the drive tray to hold them. This is how I used to use the smaller softwate discs that used to come with some hardware devices in the past. If you don't own or know any one with a dvd drive on a laptop or pc external drives can be picked up cheaply.

Thank you. We no longer own anything that has a dvd drive other than a PS4. Not sure I fancy posting one in there.😂

I’ll have a look. Will I need special software to download the images?

Yes. We have a laptop but it doesn’t have a disc drive.

Thanks. I’ll check it out.👍🏻

So DH informed me that his work laptop has a cd drive. We’ve managed to watch a couple of the discs tonight. Some are too scratched to play unfortunately but there was some footage at least of my eldest DS and my dad who sadly is no longer with us.
I’ve also got an external usb with 100s of videos and photos from our old pc and I’m thinking of backing them up on an online photo storage website. Any recommendations for that would be great.
Thank you.

There are specialist kits or companies that you can use to 'recover' scratches discs. Whether you think its worth it is up to you depending what's on the discs.

As to cloud storage, that's always a personal decision. Pick one that's likely to be around for some time. I have had a few close down and delete all my files in the past but luckily I did have anything important on the or I had time to recover my files. Now I save all mine to a multi disc raid backup system at home.

That’s my worry- that they’ll close down.
They are currently all backed up on an external drive but would like a back up of that just in case.

I think I will try get the discs repaired. Thank you.

I have all my photos replicated on about 4 different drives and on dvds as backup. I periodically check the dvds and drives to make sure they are still readable.Raids can get quite expensive but portable usb drives are fairly cheap.
