Avis Preferred app?

I’m an Avis preferred member but I’ve not used them in quite awhile since 2017. If I remember correctly that US renters on an app could choose or change the car before you collect it once you arrive at the airport but it didn’t work on the UK app. Is that still the case? I’m sure I used a proxy to download the us version and had the wizard number to do this but I’ve not got a clue what this now or if that’s still possible.

Definitely was the case in 2019 when we we're there (no picking on UK app)

We did this in 2018 - but we had the US app on our spare phone with a 3 PAYG sim in it and it worked fine, it wouldn't work on DH's usual phone! Although, they allocated us a lovely white tahoe which DH was over the moon about, so didn't need to swap it, until we got to the garage and someone had taken it from the bay, dh wasn't happy haha. We did end up with a brand new suburban though, which was an upgrade so no moans here lol.

I’ve got it all sorted. From what i remember it didn’t work for Avis Orlando but worked in Miami.

Is there any way of using a VPN like TunnelBear to download the US version of the Avis Preffered app? Has anyone done this? Or is it a matter of wait and see on arrival in the US?

I did it with this apkpure/avis-car-rental/com.avis.androidapp you need the vpn on to open the app as well.
