Areas to avoid on East Coast?

We'll be arriving into Miami and want to spend a night north of Miami airport (approx 1 hour drive). Is there any areas we should avoid? I read that West Palm Beach wasn't the nicest location but not sure how true this is. I've been looking at Boca Raton/Deerfield mainly which look good.

We'll only be spending 1 night there so doesn't have to be fancy aka expensive but it must be clean, quiet and have free parking.

I stayed at west palm beach last summer for one night to split my trip from Miami to Orlando
We stayed at the Hyatt and great location - across the road were all the shops and restaurants and I have to say I loved it , really nice feel .
There is also a shopping are very exclusive , we drove through it only !
If I can further help just ask x

You wouldn't get to West Palm Beach within the hour.

Deerfield Beach is a good place at the limit of your driving time (depending what route you take)

Thanks Barry. My DH has said he doesn't mind driving further although I think 1 hour after a long flight would be ideal esp with kids. Deerfield does look good.

thanks

We stayed at Deerfield Beach last august for the night and it took us about an hour and 15 mins to get there after we got out of the airport. Was a nice area, quiet but a good few bars and restaurants there. We stayed at the Wyndham and it was lovely, clean, nice little pool and literally on the beach.
