If you need the space then give your kids a time limit to decide what has to go. It’s always useful to have extra money but you/they should think carefully about what you sell...there’s a huge market for “retro” toys and I’m certain it’s for sentimal reasons!
My mum went through 2 marriage break ups and 4 house moves in 4 years.
Not only are all our old toys ‘lost’ I also don’t have any baby pictures or anything like that.

My MIL kept my husbands bedroom exactly the same as the day he moved out. She sold the family home two years ago and she asked him to sort it all out thinking there would be sentimental stuff for him to keep (she’s a horder so keeps everything)

He chucked the lot straight out of the window into the skip.

Mil wasn’t impressed but DH didn’t want anything

We would never get rid of anything before consulting them but we have just agreed on the main things as said before. Oldest ds is not really sentimental materially wise but youngest ds is different he is very much like dh and puts a memory to everything.

I sell a lot of the girls outgrown toys, books and clothes on local FB pages. Often leave in box outside and buyers put money through letterbox so fairly hassle free. Mostly selling for £1-£15 but over last 3 years made a few thousand.
