Beaches and Bintang in Bali - via Brussels!

Another alliterative trip report title!

For our 'main' holiday this year, we are having a more beachy type of break (at Alison's request) as we've done quite a few city breaks recently.

So, we were on the look out for a good deal on flights to somewhere that would be warm (and dry) in September, which is our preferred month for our summer holiday.

Travel

Qatar airways came up with the goods with a sale flying from Brussels to Jakarta, so we promptly booked that and then subsequently booked internal flights on Garuda from Jakarta to Denpasar (Bali) which were quite cheap. There were cheaper options but Alison generally prefers to fly on airlines she's heard of!

Those flights were booked a few months ago, and then last month we booked the Eurostar from Ebbsfleet to Brussels. It's an easy cab ride from where we live to Ebbsfleet so that'll be straightforward.

Accommodation

We struggled a bit with where to stay in Bali, and after some research decided that Sanur best met our needs. We didn't really want to stay in Kuta, and Legion and Seminyak were on the short list along with Nusa Dua. But Sanur won us over as it's a laid back area but still quite central to get to other places.

We've booked the Prama Sanur in the south of the town but it's fairly compact and we like walking so we'll use the beach pathway a lot I should think.

We have booked a single night in Brussels on the way out, so we will get the chance to do a bit of sightseeing before flying out. We've booked the Catalonia Grand Place as it's really central.

Other Plans - so far

Driving is notoriously difficult for tourists so we've pre booked a driver to collect us and drop us off at the airport, and also arranged for him to take us on a full day trip to a number of sights in the centre of the island (around the Ubud area).

We're going to book a day trip to Lembongan, to go snorkelling and on a glass bottomed boat and a tour of the mangroves.

Finally, it's our 30th wedding anniversary while we are there and we've booked an evening dinner cruise which we are really looking forward to!

Day trip to Lembongan might be out now as reviews of the Scoot tours look horrific at best and downright dangerous at worst.

Thinking hats on now for an alternative day trip.
