Car seat for 5 year old
We're not sure what to do about car seat for our DS, who will be 5 when we go to Orlando in June.
The Alamo website suggests that children over 40lbs should get a booster seat (alamo/en_US/car-rental/products.html) but for safety he'd ideally have a high-back seat like he has here at home. Do Alamo stock high-back seats for children bigger than 40lbs? Should we take our own? Are there any ramifications if we do take our own (may not be certified to US standards)? Thanks! |

I would always choose a HBB. My 9 and 7 yr old both had them this time from Alamo, they looked like the grey Graco ones with extendable headrests on a ratchet. My small 4yr old was still in a harness seat.
Edit: 40 pounds is only 18kg, which is what the harness goes up to.

Buy one here. Take it with you in your case. Then leave it in the car. Probably cheaper than renting one. And you know it will be clean. Im sure you will then fill the extra suitcase space with stuff you buy out there.

Hi, I’m currently looking into what car seat my 5 year old should be using - she’s currently 17lbs and in a high back booster with a harness. I’ve done a bit of research over the weekend and a high back booster using the seat belt seems to be the best option. We always take our own seats with us, using travel bags.
I would be worried that the car hire company would give me a booster and personally I don’t think this is the safest option for a 5 year old. I’ve heard that if you bring your own seat it isn’t legal but I’d prefer my child to be in the safest seat possible and I know that my seat hasn’t been involved in any accidents.
