Is this a good plan or too much?
So I’ve literally only just started looking into a possible trip next October and it’s so overwhelming! Takes me back to the days when we first started planning for Orlando lol 😂
So the very provisional plan at the moment is : San Francisco - 3 nights Monterey - 3 nights Santa Barbara - 2 nights LA - 4 nights Anaheim - 3 nights SAN Diego - 3 nights Las Vegas - 3 nights Is this too much? I’m trying to plan a route so there’s not hours and hours of driving at each time but not sure if I should cut something out or if there’s somewhere I’m missing etc? Any suggestions/advice very much welcome! TIA. I should add we will be 2 adults and 2 children aged 12 and 16 |

The plan works in terms of route and disatance between drives. Only comments I would make are:
Plan what you want to do in the areas before deciding on final amount of days. I would take a night off LA and add to San Diego, we did North LA (Hollywood, walk of fame etc)one day and Santa Monica / Venice beach one day. The drive between Monterey and Santa Barbara is awesome, plan for plenty of stops along the way. |

Good plan. I love LA so I don’t think 4 nights is too much but the drive from San Diego to Vegas is long, it’s going to be about 7 hours with average traffic. I would cut LA to 3 nights and have a 1 night stopover in Palm Springs between SD and Las Vegas.
Edit: My eyes were playing tricks, I didn’t notice Monterey was 3 instead of 2. Probably one too many for most people. You could add a night between there are SB. There’s so much to see along Big Sur it’s nice to take your time anyway. Edited at 01:28 PM. |

Hi overall looks good to us, make sure you go whale watching when in Monterey. Perhaps a night of LA and do a stop in Palm Springs for aerial tramway.

I would also do a day less in LA and add another one in San Diego or one in Palm Springs.

I would take a night off Monterey and possibly put a night in San Jose. We absolutely loved the Wincester House in San Jose. We also loved the Mystery Spot which we did the same day as whale watching in Monterey.
I think you could lose one night in Santa Barbar and use this to add an extra night to San Diego. I agree with the others that there's load to do in San Diego. You can also cross into Mexico from San Diego. We did this once and it was quite an experience. Very easy to cross into Mexico, much harder to get back into the USA, but a good day. |
