I don't know how much the ironing part is but I just found out that our washing and ironing is £242 a month! I'm in the wrong business.

I used to iron everything, even socks until I learnt a valuable lesson from my daughter, if you fold things straight from the tumble dryer there is no need to iron, shirts are the only thing that need ironing .
An even better and more cost effective way is dry things as you usually do, on the line or an airier and then put them in the dryer for just a few minutes and the tumbling gets rid of the creases .
I hardly ever use my tumble dryer and now hardly ever use my iron, I only get the iron out when I have several shirts to do .
There is only two of us in the house so I have a spare room for an airier .
Bedding is the same, once dry just three minutes in the dryer and put straight on the bed, no creases .
I can understand people paying for ironing to be done, busy lives and it's not the best of household chores, I used to stick something on the tv to watch so I didn't mind doing it , the worst part was getting the ironing board out and putting the clothes away afterwards . now things go straight on hangers out of the dryer or they are folded .
I can see why working families must feel like an ironing lady is a godsend .
