I have been a volunteer at a Trussell Trust Foodbank for 6 years. There are many reasons why their use has increased, but part of the reason in my area is that more support agencies are aware of us. This means we help people who would have been left to struggle. Our Foodbank has specialist advisors present who can help with benefit, housing, disability and financial problems.
At this time of year a lot of local businesses donate boxes of chocolates and biscuits, so it might be useful to check with your local Foodbank before buying. When buying toiletries please don’t forget men’s toiletries, including razors and shaving foam. Most Foodbanks have toilet rolls on their shopping lists but in my area we always need them.
Thank you everybody for your kindness and generosity I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

I just donated a box of luxury mince pies with Brandy to sainsburys, the sales assistant said it’s ok if they have Brandy in them!

What I can’t understand when shops reduce items as the sale by date is up that day or the next that food should go to homeless centres not in the bin.

A lot of it does these days. There is an organisation called fareshare who collect it and distribute it to those in need. They are brilliant and do a fantastic job

My mother was in a hospice near Brighton and M & S used to give all their foods that weren't sold by the end of the day to them. Perfectly good foods but a patients relative complained that they shouldn't be having second rate food and it was stopped

There's always one! What a shame and perhaps it put M&S offering it elsewhere.

We always get countless tubs of Roses from our suppliers and nobody in the office wants them so I took them to the food bank last week.
I took last year’s Christmas puddings too. They’re in date until Feb and I found them at the back of the cupboard! Must have had a few hampers last year!
I know they aren’t a necessity but nice to have extras at Christmas.

When I worked at M&S, the food used to go to a charity, until they started to say for example..we want white bread and not brown! 🙄 so it stopped!
