Heathrow lounges / check in limitations
We are flying Atlanta to Heathrow with Delta Landibg at 7:30 in Termial 3.
The BA to Newcastle at 13:00 from Terminal 5. This are not linked flights so we will have to collect bags (if we have any) and recheck in. It’s a wait of 5 1/2 hours. I am prepared to pay for a lounge as I know we will be tired but I am concerned we won’t be able to get to the lounge to use it. If we are hand luggage only and do online check in can we go through to departures early? If we decide to bring a bag back with us can we do bag drop early? Or do we need to wait for check in to open 2 hours before? Is there are where else to rest? I can’t see a day room option in the airport. |

Thanks for posting this, Bev. We are in a similar situation when we arrive from Seattle and then fly on to Manchester. So I am interested in the replies.

I have found an Arrivals lounge in T3 but I’d rather go to T5 and then wait once I’m there and through security.

Bev, I have just checked the T5 Aspire lounge on Tripadvisor and the following is from 2016.
“Tried the Aspire Lounge at T5 recently after an overnight international flight. It was an early September morning and the sun coming through the glass windows made the place an unbearable sweatbox. Woefully inadequate air conditioning and no showers available either. And to top it off I had forgotten this is the lounge without any restrooms and you are instead directed to exit the lounge and use the public restrooms out in the terminal. Their 7-Eleven style serve-yourself Cappuccino machine was broken and their only other option was instant coffee. No decaf coffee available for my traveling partner either. Meager cold food offerings. Left and walked around the corner to the Pilot's Bar & Kitchen for good food and full-service in a cool and comfortable setting for much less than it cost just to enter the hot and crowded Aspire Lounge.” So I think we will try the Pilot’s Bar and spend our cash on food there. It was mainly the heat comment that put me off. Edited at 11:22 AM. |

They seem to have day room rates at the Sofitel, (between9and5.com) or perhaps just chill in the lobby area of the Sofitel and save the ££? There's a Carluccios before you go through in terminal 5 that we've spent an hour or two in and a Wagamama airside and plenty of seating airside. Only ever used the BA lounges at term 5 LHR so can't help there.
