I am in the camp of leaving Dad at home. Putting aside your own and your brother’s contribution ps, I particularly don’t get why he is only putting in £1000 but his wife is contributing £3000. I cannot imagine a scenario in which my and my husband would count out how much we have each contributed to the holiday!

It sounds like the only way to avoid a drama at each meal time would be to stay onsite with pre paid dining plan (too late for free). But then you pay over the odds for a hotel. If you did a villa, it would be cheaper and reds one of your earlier posts it doesn’t mean your mother has to do everything. There are three other adults there.

But anyway, I would nevertheless leave him at home because I feel miserable even thinking about it. Your brother is getting married soon, maybe starting his own family, he maybe needs to accept your family dynamic as it is, families are all different.

Aaahhh poor Dad, don’t leave him at home. From what OP writes, it’s important that they all go away together for what could be the last time. Leaving Dad at home defeats the object.

It might be wise for the 4 of you to have a frank discussion together to agree the best place to go for a holiday that suits what you all want to do and how much you want to spend. Hopefully you can reach a compromise.

I think you're going to have to tell your Dad that you got $3 to £1

As much as your Dad might complain about prices it's essential that you all go together, it is after all a Family holiday, wherever you decide to eat out, you can tell him you have a 25- 50% off coupon, hopefully that will calm him down a bit.

You say that your Dad is putting £1000 in the pot, if that's his limit then ok, as long as it gets him going with you, you can always earn more money, you can't get time back with loved ones... He might whinge about prices and other things but I'm sure you are all used to his ways by now (just like my Dad)... you will still have a great time.

So after quite a few years of having to penny pinch everywhere (student and then on poorly paid graduate training contracts) i have found it a difficult habit to kick, even whilst on holiday. I tend to stress over daily budget / spending and worry about going over our budget. We don't really need to anymore as both earn good salaries but it's a mindset i cannot get out of

Therefore i prefer all inclusive holidays and when we went to Disney we got the dining plan and it was really brilliant as everything was paid for in advance and I didn't need to worry about overspending

Unfortunately you are too late for 2020 free dining but perhaps you should consider delaying until 2021 - if you go moderate with free QSDP you should be fine to get 2 weeks there plus flights for your budget (even if your dad only puts in £1k, which i think is unfair, but if you've all accepted it then what anyone else thinks doesn't matter!).

I’d either stay onsite at a moderate with Free QS dining so tips won’t be a bone of contention... or in a condo or villa offsite and have food kitty collected before you go so MrTightwad has little personal spending to find on holiday.

I’d book to stay onsite and pay for the quick service dining plan. I assume you are not tied to school holidays, so should be able to get good flight prices during term time. Everything is then paid for and no tips to worry about either. This should avoid any discussions about money whilst there. I agree a villa would probably be more spacious and comfortable for your group, but under the circumstances, I don’t think it would work for you.

If I’ve done this right you can stay onsite for well under your budget and have quick service dining. Depends where you will need to fly from as well, as I just put London, but these are direct flights.

Thanks. We'll be meeting up this weekend and I think the onsite with Quick Service will be what we go with. We might be able to do 2 rooms in a value.

I said it to my brother about the villa and he agreed mam wouldn't relax and let us help. She's not the type. She'd be fussing for the fortnight.
