L.A.S Vegas four times - Day 1 - House of blues and piano men

I woke up for some completely unknown reason at around 7am. Why body? Why? We had only got to the room just after 3 and given how long we'd been up yesterday this was very unfair.

We got ready and headed down from the room for an early morning nosh (ooh er) with our breakfast credit. As we booked through virgin we got $18 a day credit between us for nosh or lavazza in the hotel. This morning we decided on cappuccino each and to share a sandwich. Now what we ordered and what we got were two very different things! We ordered "Turkey, Bacon Swiss" - Roasted turkey breast, smoked bacon, Swiss cheese on a sour dough roll. We got bacon and egg omelette on a roll...

I have no idea how we were so misheard! We couldn't be bothered waiting or complaining on our first morning so went ahead anyway. The queue was often quite long in the mornings - people in Vegas need their morning coffees more than most!

Neil and Liv met us here and had their breakfast too and then we were ready to be on our way just before 11. We caught an uber to Mandalay Bay which was around $9 plus tip.

At Mandalay Bay we had a bit of time to spare so had a bit of a gamble on the fortune cup horses which was fun but not very fruitful! Tom was much better at it than me anyway!

Following this I went on the Michael Jackson slot machine which I'd been unsure if I'd do. I've always enjoyed this machine in the past and like the music but was worried I'd be lynched after the recent documentary however the other 3 of the 4 were taken so I thought I'd take my chances.

Free drink obtained (no judgement on the time as in Vegas!) and we met back up to go and queue for Gospel Brunch at House of Blues.

A quick look in the gift shop before hand as we had time to spare and we were let in to the queue with the mandatory photo on the way in. As we were queuing Liv mentioned she'd have to make sure her slit was showing which as we are all children we found hillarious. She of course meant the slit in her maxi dress! We eventually found our seat and headed to the bar to pick up our complimentary mimosas from our my vegas rewards. Turned out the orange juice in the mimosas was optional so champagne it was!

Next up we all got a plate of food - sorry no pics of this. Now I wasn't expecting much from this buffet for some reason however it was all gorgeous! I had BBQ chicken, caesar salad, collared greens, corn, bacon, breaded chicken and potatoes and it was all delicious. The show started which again I wasn't expecting to enioy as much. This was Livs pick of the holiday as she is religious and said it was like going to church on Easter Sunday so we all agreed as she really wanted to go. We are not particularly religious but all very much enjoyed ourselves. The singers were incredible - it was like listening to boys to men! The lady getting everyone in good spirits was really fun and had us all waving our napkins in the air.

We all left feeling really happy and uplifted - it was a great start to the holiday. Drinks were super cheap too at $5 for a quite large champagne and soft drinks all included. I think there was dessert but I was too full! (Ticket info - we bought on ticketmaster direct and tickets were around £50 pp including food) Everyone also got a souvenir poster and a glass jar with some Easter goodies in - not sure if this is standard or just because it was Easter but lovely souvenir. Tom went to say thank you to the group and they ended up making him cry as they said some overwhelming positive things!

We were now ready to leave Mandalay Bay and head through to the Luxor. We wandered through via the walkway and showed them both where titanic was for later in the week. Liv decided within seconds she did not like the hotel because of the slanted ceiling.

A quick gamble at Luxor and a free strawberry daq on the jurrasic park machine where some weird lady came up and got uncomfortably close and we decided it was time to leave!

We wandered through to Excalibur via some fun America shop...

...where all the walking caught up with us so we had a quick sit down at the sports book area. There was a couple there with a gorgeous tiny dog. We saw quite a few dogs this trip and dont remember seeing on our last visits. We decided it was time to head back as we wanted to drop our bags with the glass jars from house of blues off at the hotel before the show this evening.

We called an uber who was really interesting. He had been a limo driver in L.A to the stars and rich people. We tried to get him to talk bad about some celebs but no joy - just some fun stories about destiny's chils rehearsing in the back like a private concert and things like that.

Dropped off at Ballys we headed to the room to freshen up and drop off the bags and wandered over to the Flamingo to pick up our tickets to The Greatest Piano Men. We had boight on Vegas.com for around £50 pp for mid range seats.

We now had a bit of a wait and decided to visit the flamingo habitat.

We realised how little we'd been outside so decided to have a drink on the patio of Carlos and Charlies. The bar lady here was a bit rude and ended up telling us to sit at a table where we were then waited on by the same guy who served us last trip. He is a delightfully showbiz camp funny man with a mohican and is really friendly! Wine and cocktails ordered and we were chatting away when Neil got attacked by a falling umbrella! Luckily it just missed landing on his head so we were allowed to laugh! Next minute the waiter accidentally came and put a whole bottle of ketchup down in front of Neil which was hilarious due to an in joke of how much Neil loves ketchup so was extra funny as we'd not ordered food. The lovely waiter did however bring us over some free nachos and salsa dip which was lovely so we munched away sans kerchup before settling the bill and heading for the showroom where we ended up slightly later than planned.

We queued for a show drink and missed the first couple of minutes - whoops! We had seating in a booth for 5 so it was us 4 and an older lady who was on her own and seemed quite uncomfortable. She actually moved just before the end and I'm not sure why! The show itself was good - very talented pianists playing songs by the greats like Elton John and Stevie Wonder with little costumes or funny props. The mash up at the end with all 3 performers on stage was fantastic and I wish they had yhe energey they had during this part of the show all the way through as it was like they came alive and remembered they were enjoying it mid way through! Our show was the last night of their limited time engagement at the flamingo however they have been invited back for another stint. If booking tickets I wouldn't say there is a bad seat in the house.

After the show there was pretty much a forced meet and geat at the bottom of the stairs to get out which caused quite the bottle neck and we all needed the toilet! Finally out and relieved we headed over the road for our first visit to Caesars for the trip.

Caesars has changed so much since last year! We could hardly recognise it as there were new bars and restaurants everywhere and no machines seemed to be in the same place. They had also got rid of most of the branded machines which are the ones we prefer playing on as the bonuses are more fun. As a result we ended up just walking through Caesars which was extremely busy to the Bellagio.

Once at the bellagio we had a wander through the conservatory which was stunning as always.

We then wandered to the Cosmopolitan for a cocktail in the Chandelier bar. Me, Tom and Liv had a champagne socialist - "St. George Spiced Pear, Madagascar Vanilla Liqueur, Citrus, Coconut Chai Syrup & Bubbly" which was nice and almost a bit festive as it tasted quite strongly of cinnamon.

While we sat here we had the unconfortable "what do you want to do this week" chat with the guys who had refused to join mine and Livs pretrip planning. I pointed out we didn't have as long left as it felt as Tuesday we were visiting the outlets, Wednesday was taken up all day by the canyon and Thursday we had Neon museum and Fremont planned so we only really had 2 free days to fit in so priorities needed making. Neil and Liv were knackered so they left us here and after said they were going to do Titanic in the morning which we'd done last year so weren't doing with them.

Tom and I had a wander to Planet Hollywood where tiredness caught up with us. We saw a nice looking bar with live music on at the back but we decided it was too loud for how tired we felt (old farts!) so made a mental note to go back but sadly never made it so its another one added to the ever growing "next time" list. I was quite peckish by this time but not enough to wander to find anything so instead we just headed back to Ballys where we went to bed and I think fell to sleep pretty quickly.

Ha! Same here, I’d love to stay but I’m too tight! I justify the spendy cocktails though

Great first day. You packed loads in. Re drink comment...its never too early/late for a free drink in Vegas. House of Blues sounds nice and not somewhere I have ever considered so will check that out. Caesars is huge isnt it? We are staying there and Ballys in December but wondering if we have made the right choice. Can cancel free. Love Bellagio conservatory and it changes so often you get to see something different each time. Great pics... making me just want to be there. Thanks for sharing another good day.

Thanks for reading :-) we hadnt ever considered gospel brunch either tbh but now I've been I would definitely go back. The food was brilliant and the atmosphere was great. We aren't religious but it was amazing.
I think Ballys is a great option - cancel if see Cosmo for cheap obvs but it was great location and room was big and clean and most views are decent.
Very jealous of your upcoming trip! x
