Ive read many of annie-lisa's posts over the months [ some great money saving tips] and she is no doubt an experienced Florida go'er with lots of good advice to offer on the Dibb.
I feel her main problem with Old Town is the drinking of alcohol and drunkeness. I understand that she is in no hurry to return to IOA for the same reason. What I find a bit "pots and kettles" is the open admission on the Dibb of "Picking her way carefully down the stairs" out of the Japanese Yakitori restaurant in Epcot, "post haste of a strong coffee stand", after drinking the potent Japanese beer. I too have a thing about drunkeness because alcohol abuse was one of the main things that wrecked my first marriage, and has also contributed to my 2 DDs no longer wanting to visit their mother at a weekend, which is quite a sad, but understandable situation. I think thats one reason Im virtually teetotal. But I dont make a song and dance about it and I dont advise others not to go somewhere just because its there. I can honestly say I have never seen drunkeness as such in any park or attaction, with the exception of DTD Easter 2006. Thats what I love about our Florida holidays. I wouldnt like to see it in any park TBH, but Old Town is not just amusements, its where folk, especially locals go for a night out. I would describe it as a State Fair atmosphere in many ways. To be fair, theres probably more drunkeness in Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island and City Walk than there is at Old Town but nobody mentions that on here. Stuart

Stayed next door & wouldnt hesitate to do so again. As alot of people come to see the car shows are driving, there probably isnt that many drunks around & it has always been well policed. We find it very enjoyable, something abit different from the 'nicey nicey' of Disney (although i love that too!) & i love having a mooch around the unusual 'nick, nacky' shops. We have always found the locals very pleasant, friendly & very helpful when asked for information. I suppose its each to their own & wouldnt life be boring if we all agreed on everything!

A couple of years ago we stayed at the (very nice and well reviewed) Comfort Suites whish are right next door to Old Town. Despite being "Florida veterans" we had never visited so we gave it a try. Sure it isn't Disney but we both (a couple in their 50s) loved the atmosphere and friendliness of the locals. There are bars but as has been said we have witnessed more drunkenness at DTD and City Walk than here.
There are some fun souvenir shops and a couple of fast food places (a particularly nice hot dog comes to mind). The car and bike nights were fun and we can honestly say we did not feel it was unsafe or dirty at all. Come on folks, try something that isnt the Disney norm (though we like that too! ) We must be really brave because we like to go to downtown Orlando too Contrary to belief it is not full of addicts and beggars but is a thriving commercial area with a fabulous hotel (Grand Bohemian) which does a fab jazz brunch, lots of trendy eateries and the best History center we have ever visited.

I would love Church St Station to open up back to its glory again.
Never got the chance to go there, but I bet it was buzzing in its heyday. I believe theres a park thats good too, cant remember what its called though. Stuart

It was absolutely fantastic - one of the best nights I had in Florida at Rosie O'Gradys & the Cheyenne Saloon. Sadly missed.
Although I heard it is making a comeback. I can't see it ever being like it used to be though. Shame.
