We did chessington the other day and to be honest I was pleased with it, yes it needs a touch up of paint here and there and yes the staff arent as attentive or convincing as CMs in WDW and the food can be expensive. And the amount of things they have to make you part with your money is incredible, how can a family with 2 kids not go into debt going to a park over here

But, its not WDW and I wont compare it, it is a good day out, we did all the rides we wanted to and didnt see many yobs, just one group and the place wasnt dirty dirty, just a few bits in places

Also I used to love Alton Towers and havent been for 5 years and planning to go back in a month or so, but wondering what it will be like now?

And we did a trip to Lightwater valley about 10 years ago, this was a LONG drive for us and a waste of time, we only managed to get on one ride and the main one the Q was so long we thought we would end up back home if we got in it... so wouldnt every go back

The UK parks have a LOT of catching up to do, to even begin to compete with our US cousins.

The theme parks I have been to in the US are in a whole different league, and we just don't bother with UK ones now.

I agree Craig. Magic Kingdom has been there since 1971 and the British Parks still don't have a clue IMHO. We would accept that entry prices and food will be more expensive in the UK but they don't seem to realise that we would like SOME sort of value for money!

We did Camelot last weekend...the kids thought it was OK, but it was bobbins IMHO.

Expensive, dirty, run down, full of chav scum, too many teenagers in tracksuits and QVC jewellery swearing in front of my kids (and some of those were staff! )...and as for the knight's jousting show...do me a favour!

Nearly £60 to get in... more than we pay for a day at WDW... and it was pants.

I would say never again, but the kids did enjoy it I suppose.

We just do not have a clue how to do it over here... when will they either-

1. Send theme park management to WDW to watch and learn
2. Emply WDW ex-management over here to turn these places around.

I need to go for a lie down now!

My son who is 18 and a student works part time operating the rides at Gullivers World theme park in Warrington. He is very polite because that is his nature, and it's often the customers who are rude and agresive. AND he has to wear a uniform comprising shirt and red bowtie with trousers with a matching red stripe.
The problem in the UK is that there is not much competition. As not everyone can afford to fly over to Orlando it's very much a take it or leave it attitude from the theme park management.

Can't compare Orlando parks with UK ones. They have a lot less money to spend on the parks in the UK. Alton Towers is the only possible exception.
