We have always had labs or collies and we fostered our old man who was a lab collie x and a complete sweatheart, no idea why noone wanted him (he was an abuse case originally) and i miss him terribly despite having my lab and our ≈≈≈≈zu patterdale x now (yep has taken 2 dogs to fill that hole). Got him at 12yrs old to given him a better last few months and lost him aged 17yrs old. RSPCA were in awe.
We got our lab at 8 weeks old and it was tough but only for a few weeks until she was house trained then once out socialising she was and still is everyones friend. Noises and vehicles dont bother her the only things she still doesnt like is the hoover so sits at the top of the stairs until i move out of the living room and fireworks so sits on my knee everytime she hears them.

Sorry I've just got to say, please don't buy a puppy at the moment, you will pay way over the odds in most cases unless you personally know someone who is breeding and will sell one for a reasonable price

Socialisation wise as soon as he can go out try and get him to see bikes, pushchairs, motorbike, cats etc
Household noises, knock the door, ring the bell, get the ironing board out
It’s quite a small window- until they are around 18 weeks old to get them used to as much as possible
Whilst i grew up with dogs, never had a pup. So things like this i had no clue about until watching you tube vids / reading. That zac george guy from about day 3 he was always out and about like you say anything and everything he could in terms of people, places, noises and animals. Will be tricky given circumstances but will do as much as possible. Booked on to 1 set of pup socialisation classes. Trying to find more.

Though that all assumes we get over the collection issue!

price is a bit high, Ł600, but way less than pure breeds, and we are ok at that price as it is the cross breed we are after.

Oh my goodness how cute. You are going to have so much fun. My advice would be to start how you mean to go on. So if you don’t want pup on the sofa then start that straight away. Also don’t fall down the stairs. This time last year I was rushing in the morning to get downstairs to see our new addition and see if my kitchen was intact and I slipped on the stairs and broke my fibula. Was in plaster for 6 weeks. Try toilet training with a cast on your leg!

What a beautiful dog. I’m going to watch this thread with interest.

One of the blessings of covid 19 for me is that I know now that I won’t go back to work fully in London. I’ve already told me boss that I only want to do 2 days per week. Which I can arrange around my husband’s work from home day. As a result we can really start to look seriously for a puppy.

Don’t worry too much about the socialisation classes. I was worried at first but she has met so many dogs on our walks it hasn’t been an issue

We have a 10 week old border collie, she’s totally gorgeous and a bundle of fun and energy!
She is on her way to beIng house trained and already sits and down when commanded.
We have spent a lot of time doing this with her.
Both DS and I work from home and will continue to do so when lockdown is over.
We lost our previous dog 5 years ago and swore we wouldn’t get another, yet here we are with another furry bundle! 😁

Lovely pup, and sounds like you have done your checks. Hopefully you will get him home soon. We have always had older dogs, so our pup was a real culture shock! We did classes which was good and got him used to as much as possible, another one not a fan of the hoover, hates bin bags being opened, and loves anything that moves, all of DH tools, drills etc, even the tapemeasure, you wont get any jobe done while hes around! He has just had his first birthday, he is still learning and he is very stubborn, but a great companion for our DD who has special needs. Hard work but worth it when you get cuddles from him!

Beautiful little puppy! We had a collie cross for 18 years and she was a joy - the most gentle, loyal and lovely dog you could imagine. I wish you many happy years with your new best friend.
