Actually to be fair the key may go in another part of the bag at security. It’s kept on me on the plane. The issue is anything of value is not easily accessible as that bit of the bag is locked. Someone would have to take the bag itself.

Is that exactly what a thief would do, take the whole bag ? I wouldn’t imagine they would mess around trying to open it before pinching it, plus, the fact it is padlocked does that not highlight where your valuables are ?

Well as you are meant to stay with your tray until it reaches the xray machine, and you are the other side when it comes out, then the 'anyone' would have to be someone quiet small that could sneak through the xray machine.

Also, if your money belt went missing during transportation through the xray machine, then I am sure that there maybe one or two cameras that would capture the theft. You dont usually get to many thefts going through security. I have taken many devices through security over the world that are worth more than what would be in your money belt and never had anything go missing.

If you set the scanner off and get taken to the side for extra checks though , other people continue through the scanner and have access to your tray before you.

Yes, iPads are particularly vulnerable at that point. There have been a number of thefts of electronics at exactly this point, or people put one tray on top of another and walk off with it.
