We are there next year from 26th-29th and I hadn’t realised either!

We shelved our plans for late August next year because of this and moved it to October half term. Hotels seemed excessive as well even though all we were after was something cheap and in walking distance to the gates.

We did 5 days at the end of August last year. I was shocked by the crowds particularly in the evening which made me think there were lots of locals. To be honest the evenings were so busy we walked out the daytime was a bit better. Maybe try the mornings, we were there at the end of a long holiday and I don't remember getting to the parks before lunch on any of the days.

We have moved our dates in Anaheim to avoid the Star Wars convention and when I was looking at hotels it seemed busier on those dates, but I assume that most people will be busy at the convention hall anyway and from podcasts even when D23 was on then DL wasn't too busy.

Touring plans have updated their crowd calendar today, this blog post summarises the changes. TL;DR - the impact of GE is not as high as expected and they have lowered by 1 or 2 points most days - including most of the days next August, the week of the SW convention are around 2-4 points so they aren't estimating a high crowd impact.

As someone said above, the annual passes are blocked until mid August. I think it differs by park too.

We went around 10-11 August and crowds were fine - got on everything at least once and most people said it was quieter than expected, but we're expecting a surge in late August from locals.

We were there from the 19th - 23rd August this year, which coincided with D23. Crowds were busy in the afternoon and evening - but not crazy busy. Mornings were fine and managed to do loads of rides. Never had a problem with Galaxys Edge. Magic Hours are definitely worth it i particularly for Californian Adventure park as all the rides are open.
