Mum passed today. She was in a care home and all I can think is she was alone. We hadn’t been able to visit for 2 weeks. She did have a chest infection this week and the care home said they would call and I could go when necessary. I live an hour a way and just couldn’t get there in time as she passed away 10 minutes after the call.
We can have 10 family members at the funeral. We don’t have a big family anyway but it won’t be much of a send off for her. She had all the symptoms of Coronavirus but wasn’t tested so we can’t even go to see her.
Not sure why I am writing this. I just don’t know what to do with myself.

I’m sorry to hear this it must be awful.. my mum is end of life brain cancer and she is also in a nursing home I haven’t seen her for a week I usually see her everyday. I know exactly how you feel about her being alone I’m torturing myself over her being alone. I hope you are ok sending best wishes XX

Please try not to dwell on not being there - when my mum died she was in hospital (and had been for a few weeks) even my dad who was 10 minutes away couldn’t get there in time. We arrived too late.

I am sure that your mum had a lifetime of knowing how loved she was by all of you, and being unable to see you in the last few days would in no way wipe that out. She will have been well cared for and comfortable.

Likewise, the funeral is for you really, not for mum... so go ahead with that small event, but plan a nice remembrance with a wider group when all of this settles.
