Insurance help - not paying out

Hi
Long story short I cancelled our cruise/New York holiday 2nd March (before travel restrictions) due to fly out 3rd April as my mum is end of life and only has a couple of weeks if that left. She was diagnosed 24/12I/18 with brain tumour and lung cancer.. was only given 6/12 months but she’s still here. My insurance are saying it’s pre existing so will not pay out.. I’m kicking myself that it would have been cancelled anyway due to the restrictions 😡 but we made the decision based on mums circumstances. So my question is I don’t think they will let me claim for Coronavirus as I cancelled myself. Would I be able to make a claim on my credit card? Just feeling really peed off 😔

Sorry to hear about your mum.

Did you know about her diagnosis when you took out the insurance? If not then I'd challenge back to them that it was unknown and therefore couldn't be declared as preexisting.

Check the T&C's of your policy.

No, I don't think you can claim anywhere else as you cancelled for your own reasons.

Yes we took the insurance out after we knew.. we booked the holiday thinking she wouldn’t be here.. I think will just have to suck it up 😔

Sorry about your loss...

As crappy as it is you are right, you'll have to suck this one up. You can't insure against something you know is a possibility (like your parents dying from an illness that you know they've got without telling the insurer and them agreeing)

It's just unfortunate that it's now cancelled anyway.

You'll get no joy from the CC either for the same reason.

I know you didn't want to hear it, but as you suspected that's how it is.
