We actually don’t have a table and haven’t had for a while , the kitchen has become a bit of a dumping ground for boxes etc whilst a playroom is built for the granddaughter
Unfortunately it involved more work than anticipated so taking far longer ... that and my husband got side tracked with other projects . So the table had to go , it will be replaced eventually of course . So yes meals are eaten on our knees / trays |

When dd was small we often ate dinner on trays watching tv once she had gone to bed. Now we all tend to eat together. We usually eat at the breakfast bar but sometimes eat at the dining table.

No hard and fast rules here. Breakfast bar doesn't really get used now it's just us, in fact it's pretty good for finishing off washing as it has a radiator under it.

If the coal fire is on at the weekend we have treat tea like takeaway or HM burgers /pizza and watch a film together
Otherwise at the table 6 pm ish and often outside in the summer as we all love eating in the garden and I like it as the teens stay out and play footie or tennis |

Have never & will never eat food, other than a pkt of crisps or a biscuit, anywhere other than at a table.

Our dining table has been a desk and a classroom for much of the last 9 months. We cleared it off for Christmas, and had our meals in there. From today, it's back to being a desk and a classroom. Lots of meals on our laps, using trays.

I think we have a mix of dining and coffee table.
If for example we have party food or pizzas on a Saturday night then we tend to pop it all on the coffee table and just have a side plate each on our lap. DS hates eating off his lap of cutlery is involved!

We each using our lap trays most nights, feels like a treat if we sit at the table. Tend to eat in front of the tv and my lap tray is a photo gift so I get a little Disney Photo pick me up each time I use it, even have a Christmas lap tray to use in December. 🙂

We used to eat most if not all of our meals off a tray on our lap in front of the TV. During the first lockdown, we reclaimed our dining room and moved the dining table back in from the conservatory where it’s lived for years and hardly been used except at Christmas. Since then (about May I think) we have been consistently eating in the dining room - we have since redecorated and carpeted it, bought new dining furniture etc. It’s made a huge difference to how we eat - though we have been dieting since then as well, and have lost a lot of weight (especially DH). We are more serious about the quality of food now and tend to eat much smaller portions but better foods. I think it’s a very positive change for us and we will not be going back to our old ways.

I have never eaten from a tray on my lap, ever, and I have never been anywhere where I have seen it done. We have the occasional takeaway from the coffee table in the room - it's a biggish table between two settees - and sometimes hold my plate as you would at a buffet, but to put a plate on my knee/lap seems a really odd position to eat from. Does it not wobble like crazy when you use your knife? I can understand it for finger food at a push, but can you really eat a full roast dinner from your knee? It's a whole new world out there
