its very rare for it not to be unleaded, the diesel fuel is mostly used for trucks specially those trucks which is used for towing purposes as i have Ram 5500 towing truck which i use for 24 hour towing queens ny so that a diesel truck.

Don't know if you're reading on a pc or mobile device, Cookie, but I took the OP's smilie (which doesn't show on my browser, but does on the 'phone) as meaning the comment was jovial and tongue in cheek... having said that, there are, I'm sure, plenty of fellow car nuts amongst us Florida enthusiasts, so had the OP posted the make/model (rather than just "they do a diesel"), I'm sure someone could've advised.

Back to the OP though, others have pointed out the glow-plug lights on ignition turn-over, but there's also the giveaway of low redlines on the rev-counter, and, well, noise. As refined as modern diesels can be, there's still not a one that won't betray itself with a clackety-clack at tick-over.

Hope OP's figured it out and not mis-fueled in the meantime

Ha ha. I now have this image in my mind of a host of British renters on their hands and knees in the gas station sniffing the fuel cap area.

All the while the Americans shaking their heads at the crazy Brits who seem to be addicted to petrol fumes.

Also don’t repeat one I heard of where the lady driver saw D on the dash and thought that meant diesel, however it was the automatic in drive!

Turned out to be an expensive refill after putting diesel into an unleaded tank.
