I often wonder when this question pops up why so many slate Disney for how much they charge.
I mean you can pay £8 for 4 hours to park at a Hospital in the UK. £6 to park on a National trust car park so you can walk along the free coastline. Airport Hotels that charge £5 per hour £25 for 24 hours and this is after paying them for a room . Yes unfortunately it does add up a lot if we attend Disney parks for 7 - 14 day but in reality the cost is no more than you pay elsewhere for parking.

If you don't use the discounted hotel rates it's over £40 to park overnight in the short stay at Gatwick!

There is always the option to use Public Transport, you can use a Taxi/Uber in and out of Disney.
The Central Florida area (Sanford-Winter Park-Orlando-Kissimmee) is served by a bus system—LYNX. ... Line 50 from/to Downtown Orlando has stops at the Transportation and Ticket Cetner (Magic Kingdom) and at Disney Springs. So there is a viable alternative but most do not want to use it. There are also some Hotels that run free shuttles to and from the parks. Could you really imagine if there was offsite parking/ at the side of the roads as people do in the UK, the roads would be so dangerous with all those parked cars and thousands of families with young children all rushing to get to Disney gates first. Plus in order to allow parking on the roadside Disney would have to invest more in the road system as the current infrastructure in place would not cope with this, people would park on the grass verges and they would get ruined making life for wildlife a nightmare. I think the price being charged at Disney may seem high but it has to cover many costs Security/ Trams running and Maintenance/ staff and of course the Maintenance of the actual car parks. What I am saying is people complain that Disney car parking rates are extortionate but in reality they are no higher than rates we pay to park here in the UK. Alton Towers £6 parking Entry on the day £58 Online £38 So £6 to park after you have paid £58 to get in and then queue half a day for 1 ride. Most UK hospitals do not have any off road parking within a certain radius the roads are all Double yellowed or resident permit, and the parking charges in place also stand for the staff that work in them. When going to Florida to visit the parks or even just visit the area you just have to factor in the extra cost of parking, or do with out a car. The Disney hotels are just starting to charge guests to park and many feel this is wrong but in reality many Hotels around Florida have had parking charges in place for guests many years. Hilton Miami charged me $25 per night Hilton Marco Island also charged me $25 per night Sandpearl Clearwater $25 per night Opal sands Clearwater $25 per night And that is after paying $300 and up for a room for the night

It is free for UK Guests until Dec 31st, so they should not charge you and if they do you need to make sure of the refund. Here's a link the parking FAQs and where it shows quite clearly this paragraph:
"Guests residing in the UK and Ireland checking in on or after 1st January 2020 will be charged for overnight resort parking. Thanks both! I also asked on the accommodation thread and got the same response. On the back of this we have decided to hire a car one last time- we thought uber would be cheaper but we like the flexibility of the car but couldn’t justify the cost if we did have to pay for parking.. won’t have that worry now!

There are no buses direct to any of the parks from DS, only buses to the resorts, and they do not start until 11am. There are buses from the parks to DS but not before 4pm
